New Avatar Challenge: Modern Sci Fi

Second: Thank you members for the votes in the last contest! I appreciate it!

Third: The new contest (in which all the old avatar rules apply ... such as 140X140 etc. I don't know the limits of animated avatars) is about Modern Sci fi
This includes:
1. Sci fi films television or media stories that take place in the era in which they were produced
2. It can also include visions of the future but the "year" of thnat future has already passed, such as the year 2001.

I would say avatars must be done by Next Thursday about nine days from now)

So what are the regulations here? Something sci fi set in a time that's already passed, or something of a sci fi nature set in the "present" like Men in Black, Stargate, Independence Day, Predator?

^Both by the sounds of it.

Space: 1999 would count, for instance, since 1999 has come and gone but so would The X-Files or Stargate SG-1 as they were set in the present day with occasional references to current events (like Carter taking the piss out of the movie Signs).

welll I was originally going to go with my first idea, but after looking for suggestions (see voting thread for the last contest) peopleseemed to like the latter idea... so I combined themn!

Hey, I'm not the brightest bulb on the BBS and I'm not too good at thinking of these contests. If you all want to go with a different idea speak up now, as these things can always be changed. It's all in fun.
