Weekend 8 Numbers - Star Trek #8 - $3.6 million - $246.2 million

I wonder how much ST made for the entire week/weekend in the oversea's market, hopefully we will be close to $130 milion mark.

It made $1.9 million last weekend, so I'd expect less than that. International will probably still be under $125 million.

but that was just the weekend right not weekdays as well ?

oh, so, as the weeks go by the studio makes less and less percentage of the cut and the theaters make more? interesting, thanks! I did not know that. :)

Oh yeah. That's one reason that it used to be difficult to get theaters to book sequels to "successful" movies like...oh, "Star Trek: The Motion Picture." That film made almost all of it's first-run money within four weeks. Okay for the studio, not so hot for exhibitors.

Lemme get this straight - Transformers has made more in four days than Star Trek has in almost two months?

Excluding this weekend, it's $123.6 million.

hopefully passed or on the cusp of $125 million after the weekend numbers, will we fin out tommorow ?. I wonder if a Matt Damon Kirk would of boosted the international numbers a little maybe the sequel should aim for a decently known worldwide actor to play some part maybe as the villian.

Psst.

Come over here, a little secret.

Did you know there will be a sequel to Star Trek?

That'll make even more money than this one?

Thus ensuring yet another?

It's true!

Exiting the Australian box office with a solid $AU16 million.

Incidentally, Transformers did quite badly, coming in third behind Proposal and Hangover.

$250 million is a cinch. I bet that ST will slightly surpass this weekend's total for 4th of July weekend.

RAMA

It wasn't so long ago that $250 million was pretty much universally declared improbable around here.

Well, the fact that Transformers trounced Star Trek in only about 1/14th the theater time - with a Rottentomatoes rating of 21% - should put an end to the argument that big box office results = good movie.

And should prove (once again)m that teens + Middle age men who haven't matured yet, is the dumbest demographic around.

Big boxoffice result = good movie has never been a good argument. But if a movie makes $250 million and has a 95% rottentomatoes rating then it has a pretty good argument for being a good movie. But ultimately it's our own opinion that matters.

And Transformers was supposed to be a boxoffice smash, it's not a surprise that it's doing great.
