^That's pretty much my reaction as well.
I am frankly amazed at the amount of entertainment certain game companies are basically giving away for free.
To use my favourite online FPS as an example, once again: I bought Red Orchestra for 40 dollars, Canadian, three years ago.
I've played it for three years, receiving numerous free updates and mods along the way, without ever having to pay an additional dime, to anyone.
I started playing Left 4 Dead only fairly recently--after Valve let people play it for free for a weekend. Their marketing scheme worked--I bought the game right away, after I tried it. But I've already gotten more than my money's worth.
In terms of dollars spent to hours of entertainment received, online shooters are a fantastic bargain compared to--well, anything.
In my opinion, the people who are talking about boycotting L4D2 have lost all sense of perspective.
It wouldn't surprise me if they were the same type of people who vociferously defend their 'right' to download anything for free, laws or no laws.
