I am now one of the unemployed

Yes, add me to the statistic. Consider me to be... without job.

No, T'Bonz hasn't finally kicked my ass... this is my proper job.

Kinda sucks. I'm okay, I'll find something else eventually and did want to move. This just puts a time factor on proceedings.

It is a little surreal today. Redundancy is what happens to 'other people'. Now I know how it feels.

Sorry to hear that.. it is kinda strange though. A year ago when i met with friends for BBQ, a game or movies our jobs and job situation rarely were an item.

Now inevitably our discussion ends up there at a certain point.. most of them were downsized to a part time job (a german construct where you get paid about 65% of your salary and the company gets subsidized by the government.. it prevents outright firing of staff for a time until hopefully the crisis is over).

I might have to take the walk by the end of August too.. business is bad but so far none of our office staff had to be let go (though many of our warehouse workers have already been let go). I'm 50/50.. job performance and evaluations are ok, my boss tells me he wants to keep me but if business gets any worse he won't have choice and has to let my contract expire by August 31st.

Good luck to you and find something fast.. :techman:

I get on with my boss fine, aced my review, saved the company lots of money... but still at the end of the day it's a numbers game. So I don't take it too personally.

I am sitting by the phone now waiting to hear about a job.
So i hope you get something soon.

That sucks to hear. Work seems to be few and far between these days and the number of people I know out of work is shocking.

I'm even on unemployment benefit (declaring monies earned in freelance on a weekly basis) as I'm not making enough to cover the bills and considering a whole new career to cover the costs,.

So how does that work? I thought you had to unregister as self-employed in order to claim dole.

It's something that has been worrying me in case I ever lose my job, whether i'd be able to take freelance where I can get it and still sign on. Say you earn £500 in one week, how long does that come off your benefits for? Just the next 2 weeks, or the whole month or what?

And sorry to hear about your misfortune AntonyF.

Feel awful for you, AntonyF. I'm very sorry. :( Here's hoping you land a better, bigger paying job where they appreciate what they've got. :D

I'm sorry to hear this Antony. But you're a sharp guy and I'm sure you'll land in a better place in short order.

Aw. I'm so sorry to hear that. It's been a while since I've been unemployed, but I do remember the feeling well. Too well! Thank goodness you have a good work record. And here's hoping the economy really is starting to improve.

I'm very sorry to hear this, Antony. I hope you find something better soon. Good luck. :bolian:

Oh man I am sorry to hear that. I know how rough it can be. Maybe a positive note is we are coming up on the tail end of the recession so things will pick up soon even if in a small way. Take a few days to mope and pity yourself and eat way too much ice cream, but then get right on it and look for that next career. Your smart and experienced so you have an edge on a lot of the other people out there. Good luck!

Ouch. Sorry to hear it. I know how it feels. Hope you find someplace you want to move, that has low unemployment.

This is exactly the right attitude. At times like these plenty of excellent people are being shown the door.

Best of luck, hope something comes up soon :techman:
