It's worth noting that the word you're looking for here is "moot," not "mute"

Well now it's out, Brit is probably one of the worse spellers in the world. LOL, that's one of the mistakes that spell check doesn't catch. I do actually copy all my posts into Word for just that reason. The hard part is that I also live with the world's best speller, she's a great beta but she loves to get me, (in a loving way however because she is my daughter).

LOL, Brit. I remember an episode of "Friends" where Joey said something was a "moo" point. He said, "It's a cow's opinion. It's moo."

I miss Joey. :guffaw:

Yep I miss Joey too.

I have wondered however if this board needs to make an announcement that the dyslexic need not apply because your intelligence will be judged by your ability to spell or lack there of.

Brit

^ No that shouldn't be necesary! EVERYONE here makes a spelling mistake now and then - even folks like me who scored in the 98th percentile on their verbal SATs. Correcting another poster's spelling mistakes may not be warnable but it is pretty gauche.

I recall dimly another TV show where the argument was made for mute over moot because moot doesn't mean anything thing, but a mute point is some thing so silly that it might as well have not have even been said.

Can't for the life of me recall where that gag was from, but as much as I miss Joey Tibbianni, I do so dearly miss that other vidiot Joey Russo.

Okay, okay, now that we've established I'm insulting people's intelligence and being a snobbish 98th percentile "gauche" rather than correcting what I thought was a (commonplace in my experience) vocabulary error and not a misspelling...

Does anyone care to respond to the content of my post?

For what it's worth, I'm sorry Brit if I came across as insulting your intelligence, I really did think you were just using the wrong word.

When I see the two of them, I see a lovable, sparkling romance in the offing. While I do see a slight bit of chemistry with Janeway and Chakotay, it's just not the same. I think the writers took a logical and progressive step forward.

Kestrel, don't take this personally, but the common place error you mentioned is used by people (and I am not accusing you personally) on this board as a judgment of intelligence.

My daughter will not post here. She has an extensive knowledge of all of Trek up to and including Voyager. She could add a lot to any of the conversations, but she says "It seems to me that you have to have the perfect post, will all i's dotted and all t's crossed before anyone will listen to what you are saying."

It's kind of an open secret that I mod another Trek Forum, we have an unwritten rule, and yes some of the younger members don't get it but it works. "You do not give negative feedback in an open forum." Now mainly this is in connection to fan fiction, but it has kind of been extended to the forum discussions too. Corrections are given in private via a PM.

I didn't lie when I said that I copy and paste every post into word. I do it because I am very aware that I don't hear the sounds in words correctly and I cannot spell phonetically. I kid about it a lot but it is so frustrating to confuse spell check, to know something is spelled wrong but don't have the first idea of how to spell it right, to keep plugging in combinations of letters (and my problems are mostly with vowels) until you hit the right combination and spell check can recognize the word.

I actually tried to laugh it off until I saw your post in another thread that took me to task about using the illustration of Avery Brooks not wanting to have Sisko die leaving another Black child to be raised by a single mom. That's the point I decided that you were far more interested in "correcting" me personally rather than what was said in the first place.

So I'm sorry if I took your comments the wrong way, but you have to understand that on this board I wear a red shirt only mine has a big target painted on the back too. I've been accused of being a troll, and a part of a sock puppet conspiracy by a couple of Janeway fans to fool people into thinking that people actually like her.

I am here because every once in a while someone actually asks me where is this board that respects Janeway fans. Where are those people that will not come to Trek BBS because their opinions are discounted, where they are continually told just how lousy their favorite character was. And I can tell them where to look.

On June 16th there was a Live Journal post to the effect that Voyager fans feel very unwanted here. So I'm sorry if I tarred you with the same brush as everyone else, but most of the time from my angle you all look alike.

Great post, Brit.

Great post, Brit.

I agree. (I know, alert the media).

Brit, do you have a link to this LiveJournal post? I'd love to read it.

J. Allen and Guy, when I see you two dancing "I see a lovable, sparkling romance in the offing." At least more so than with C/7. Keep on dancing. ;)

Civility and generosity are never regrettable. I've noticed by and large this forum is much more civil than some of the others. I've been guilty myself of not always playing well with others but find the Voyager threads a refuge of relatively calm and intelligent discussion.

I do especially look forward to posts from Brit and Guy; but for differing reasons!

I think I just fainted.

Did anyone feel the ground shake where they live, that was me.

Seriously, I think it's due to the controversy behind many aspects of Voyager that does draw the crowd we have to the forum. Be it J/C vs.C/7 or Seven vs. Kes or even Voy. vs. TNG vs. DS9. There is always a topic within Voy. that brings out "passionate" debate from it's fans & non-fans alike. The flaws in Voy. are what have kept this forum alive with great debate long after the show was over.

exodus: I couldn't said it better myself! :) Right on there, man! I adore the banter that goes back and forth towards posters about their favorite TV show. :)

For gods sake people, firefox v2 on has a built in spell checker. There's a little red line under every spelling error I make while typing into this quick reply box, and I assure you there have been a few red lines already because it is cold and I have very fat fingers.

This technology is about 3 years old and has improved the quality of my posting no end.

You really want to know what a stupid person on the internet is?

It's someone that trusts/thinks that Microsoft IE is good and/or good for you.
