Klingon WARBIRDS?

So Klingons aren't allowed to have "warbirds" in their vocabulary because of the Romulans?

"Praetor... They've got warbirds!"

"Who?"

"The Klingons!"

"What?! Our warbirds?"

"No, their own!"

"What?! Only the mighty Romulan Empire is supposed to have warbirds! We are after all, the only species to have birds on our planet, don't we?"

"Yes sir, whatever you say sir"

"Well, then it's decided. WE GO TO WAR!!!"

Alternate timeline. :)

Yup.

Get over it.

It's canon now. They'll be over to reformat your brain and prevent you from exercising your right to imagine things the way you like them. It's only slightly less painful than raping your childhood. :techman:

Am I the only one who finds this complaint kind of odd?

You're on a forum where one poster is angry/upset that the Kelvin registry number starts with zero, and another dismisses the entire movie simply because Gary Mitchell isn't in it.

Oh yeah and someone named Captain Robert April who is pissed because there is NO CHANCE IN HELL that his namesake will ever appear on screen.

Now excuse me if I'm needed here I'll be in the Captain Robau Worship Thread. Remember, he's NOT. DEAD. he just took a temporary break from mortal existence.

What is the term "starship" really? Star meaning space and ship meaning ocean-going vessel to make "vessel that goes through space."

Not quite. A spaceship travels in space. A STARship is a spaceship/craft capable of travelling from one star to another. That is how the term is usually used.

I would also add that the term "Klingon warbird" was first (mistankingly) used in ENT's pilot "Broken Bow", not in Star Trek XI.

Both the bird-of-prey and the warbird were originally only Romulan ship types. Due to writer errors, the Klingons started to use these terms as well.

Actually this means the movie now confirms that Starfleet folks called Klingon cruisers Warbirds consistently from the NX era to some point in the Five-year mission....

Yeah, that too. Although it wasn't necessarily the writers' intention (at least Brannon Braga is on the record of saying that the term "Klingon warbird" was used on ENT due to an error).

So, the Klingon warbirds accidentally became canon. That was my point.

^ Fine with me, in that case. It's not the first time something stupid accidentally became canon. It won't be the last either. But this is something stupidly canon we can actually live with since Klingons and Romulans have similarly militaristic cultures and therefore probably use the same types of ships and ship terms.

I think you have to admit that the term "Klingon Warbird" is kind of catchy. I hated it at first, but now I've grown fond of it. Makes sense for Klingons to have "warbirds" and "birds-of-prey" no?

This is how I'm imagining the start of the inevitable Klingon/Romulan war in the NuTrekverse:lol:.

Why can't they do as the Cardassians do and just call 'em War Vessels? You know, ships that blow stuff up, it's that simple.;)

Remember that in Enterprise (which is still canon in the timeline) the Klingon ships were called Warbirds by the Vulcan Ambassador in Broken Bow. It was said to be a script error by I believe Braga, but now it seems that it stuck.

They have similar cultures now. They didn't used to, but each time the writers have gotten their traits confused, the two cultures grow a little more similar.....

I remember a good, classic TOS novel, called "The Romulan Way," which gave a lot of background on Romulans. It's also a McCoy book.

Alternate timeline. :)

So basically, a wizard did it?

If that's the case, while we're at it, can we have the Romulans fall into a black hole, never to return, please? They're annoying, cliched, and all have those stupid bowl haircuts. More Tholians instead. :techman:

This did confuse me.

But did not bother me at all. I'd prefer if they do include Klingons they have BoPs though and Warbirds as some kind of "stolen" technology.

Since history was altered by the Kelvin's encounter with the Narada, it is possible that there is a Klingon ship that the Starfleet of the NuTrek Universe calls a warbird.

Alternately, maybe whoever called it a warbird thought to themselves ten seconds later, "Oh hell, that's right, we call them birds-of-prey, not warbirds. Oh well, too late now."

Where did that come from? Only the Romulans have Warbirds. Klingons have Birds-of-Prey and battlecruisers in this century.
