Architecture fans, discuss the World Trade Center replacement building

Re: Architecture fans, discuss the World Trade Center replacement buil

And if you ask New Yorkers, they had the emotional wistful affection for the old WTC before they fell.

Well, both sidious and myself like the new design and I already commented how the old building were kinda ugly of you really looked at them.

Sights to be seen? Absolutely! But still kinda ugly.

Yeah, they weren't exactly pretty. I like this new design much better.

I thought there was a lot to be said about their simplicity.

Eh. Personally, I didn't care for the twin towers' design. To me they seemed less like buildings and more like monoliths from the Orwellian school of architectural design.

^ I don't know, I always thought they were one of those buildings that really defined mondernism as a architectural style, much like the Toronto-Dominion Centre. Sure they're just boxes on one level, but on another they do have a really simplistic beauty to them.

Re: Architecture fans, discuss the World Trade Center replacement buil

^That's part of the problem though (on my part, not objectively). Over the years, I've decided that I really dislike modernism.

Blegh modernism. There's simplicity and then there's sterility and modernism is the later. Where I'm from our boom in tall office building construction came in the 70s and loads of these buildings were designed by archictecs who were fans of the modernist style. It's like something out of 1984 which to me is a little unsettling and off-putting.

Orwellian; that's exactly my thought! While I like dramatic design and architecture; it's simply silly to try and rebuild the exact same towers.

As a replacement, I'd like something like the Burj Dubai, only not as large.

Or perhaps these; even more "imperial" and "Orwellian" then the old towers.

It looks ass. It doesn't know whats it meant to be. Anyone notice the occult symbols?

Ugh. Honestly, the only impressive thing about the Burj is the height. It's an ugly-ass building otherwise.

If you're so sure, please point them out for us, so that we may see them as well.

Those shapes are not occult symbols; they are merely visual representations of mathematical constructs. Please show us occult symbols.

Anything geometrical can be described in maths, but remember context masons etc.

Symbols only have meaning when you look at them in their context, yes. But then, this building isn't being built by occult followers, is it? Even if it was, it doesn't spell out ILLUMINATI or whatever on it's doorstep; so there are no occult symbols on there. Get back to me when they wave a flag.

Looks like we have the plot to Dan Brown's next novel.

Ok I'll get back to you in 3 years when they open the stargate.

All right, but don't expect me to hold my breath. :D

Re: Architecture fans, discuss the World Trade Center replacement buil

Yeah, I guess we aren't allowed to use geometric shapes in architecture, lest it appear the Illuminati are involved somehow!
