Weekend Estimate - Star Trek #7 - $4.7 million

Were looking at a $150 million between opening day and sunday...and I would say $350 domestic total is most likely though I doubt it will have the WOM to reach $400 million. Oversea's total will probably be bigger this time too.
150? You really think so? Paramount hasn't promoted the movie at all.

Does it even have to?

If you want asses in the seats you do...esp if word of mouth isn't favorable. It could also point to a lack of confidence on the part of the studio heads.

Well, the anticipation factor is high, once that wears off that's when the legs come in... I mean, look at what promotions like "the hottest movie of the summer" did for Wolverine... :p

Nice calculations...

yeah, $250 million is a lock now. I don't see how the movie fails to reach that.

Does anyone know how much longer Star Trek is going to be in theaters for?
Big summer films will usually have runs of at least 11-14 weeks. Films that hold up well will have runs of 16-22 weeks, and a handful will have runs longer than that. Star Trek should be in theaters for at least another 10 weeks or so.

The numbers have been great -- thanks for reporting them. I'm still counting the day until the DVD comes out!

WEEKEND ESTIMATES FROM ENTDATA

1. THE PROPOSAL - 34.11 million - 34.1 million
2. THE HANGOVER - 26.86 million - 152.9 million
3. UP - 21.34 million - 224.1 million
4. YEAR ONE - 20.20 million - 20.2 million
5. THE TAKING OF PELHAM 1 2 3 - 11.30 million - 43.3 million
6. NIGHT AT THE MUSEUM 2 - 7.30 million - 155.9 million
7. STAR TREK - 4.70 million - 239.4 million
8. LAND OF THE LOST - 3.98 million - 43.7 million
9. IMAGINE THAT - 3.10 million - 11.3 million
10. TERMINATOR SALVATION - 3.07 million - 119.5 million

If this number holds up, it would be a tiny 14% drop from last weekend. This weekend number puts the estimated take of Trek to be $239.4 million. This would put it at #55 on the all-time domestic list. Still in the #7 spot despite two more new films.

I didn't think it would get to $250 million a few weeks ago, but it probably will crawl over that mark in the next month. Up is nipping at Trek's heals, which means that unfortunately Trek's rule as the #1 film of the year will end so :( :).

Great numbers, I have to say it is awesome to see that it was nearly a million over some expectations. Wonder if it can manage close to 400,000 on Monday.....cross your fingers. It'll break 240 million by Tuesday night, I hope.

These are pretty good numbers if they hold up, especially with the decline in the number of theaters. Paramount was still running TV ads for it (I saw it a couple of time during the Conan show), so that probably helped.

Trek may take a big hit next week, with Transformers opening and the loss of IMAX theaters.

^Many IMAX theaters have continued showing ST one or two times a day. According to boxofficemojo they accounted for about 400K of box office this past weekend.

So why can't they, I don't know...CONTINUE to show Star Trek at IMAX in limited fashion?!?

And to think my IMAX hasn't even got it yet, and probably won't.

Sharks in 3D... pfft.

Because Transformers will fill up the theatres at midnight more than Trek will.

The funny part is that Night at the Museum has something like 4-5 times more showings than Trek, and only made $800K.

Well, whatever happens Star Trek has performed beautifully...
"I need everyone to continue performing admirably." ;)

I guess O&K got to see how their comedy outing went, since it's at the top of the heap this week.

I honestly don't know how anybody is finding the IMAX Star Trek here, since it's not on the marquee, unless they are checking online. They are motivated.
