Should I stay or should I go now?

Help! I've been invited to a birthday 'drinks' thing tonight. He is a good friend, but one who can annoy at times. I'm not sure who else is going but it is in the pub my Dad drinks in so he should be there.
Trouble is it's the other side of town and will cost £15 in cabs alone and might very well be crap.
So do I venture out into real life?
I've changed my mind so much about this today ~ I'm currently 65 - 35% one way but need confirmation.
So please help me make up my mind

If it's your friend's birthday, and I were you, I would go--but I would probably leave fairly early, before my friend started to annoy me, it stopped being fun, and it became too inconvenient to get home.

If it's somebody else--nah.

Not after 6pm in this neck of the woods, all the people are usually home for the evening by then

If it's a good thing then definitely go - if it gets annoying you can just chat to your dad, if it's a bad thing then depends how much you like your friend.

I say go. You never know what might happen, or who you will meet. Even some of the most annoying people must surely have good days - perhaps their birthday? Some of the best evenings I've ever had occurred after I had at first been reluctant to go.

Dad is good thing but that's another factor... The friend, Bob, is originally a friend of my Dads but in that weird competitive 'middle-aged men that have known each other 40 odd years' way. So Dad may well be put out that I bothered to go to see Bob and don't make the trek to see him on a Friday night. But I could disguise that as going to see him for a Fathers Day drink ~ aha cunning plan.
And pingfah, bit late for that, I'm a beer down by the distress of the decision making process already *hic*
