B.A.G cast as Metallo for Smallville season 9

A couple years ago it would be "Smallville is desperate... even though their casting call for crappy actors makes this par for the course."
Now it's "Brian Austin Green is sure slumming it... but at least it's a guaranteed paycheck. Even Michael Caine made Jaws 4 and a Steven Seagal movie."

well part of that is to do with the fact we now have a new generation of "that guy from 90210" guysHeh, it was just a couple years ago when everyone would have been like "WTF? The guy from 90210?" Now we all feel safe in thinking it's actually a pretty good choice.
maybe this is part of a "Brian Austin Green Sweeps Event" theCW are planning, after this he goes on to appear in 90210 & Melrose Place (not as Metallo obviously), then after that he makes a quick appearance in Supernatural as a demon version of himself, before being guest judge on Next Top Model
This is good...Metallo is the ultimate meteor freak, although why do they have to go and Smallville another character and make him part of the Daily Planet staff? John Corben is suppossed to be a con man...I wonder if Metallo arriving is going to mean he could become Smallville's version of the Cyborg Superman? Anyways good news...now if we can only get that Mason characater casted alredy or confirmed.

You read the paragraph about the Golden-Age character called "Metalo," but missed the part saying that that was a completely different character from the one we're talking about. Metallo, John Corben, is a criminal who had a fatal accident and whose brain was placed into a fully robotic body with a synthetic skin making him look human. Sort of like a cross between RoboCop and a Terminator. His body is powered by kryptonite, which makes him very difficult for Superman to defeat.

This is awesome! I love Metallo and have been hoping he'd appear in a Superman movie. I wonder if he is a guest shot or a main cast member?
Well, no. Not exactly. Pre-Crisis John Corben was a reporter at the Daily Planet and had a brief romance with Lois Lane.

I'm not familiar with the Silver Age Metallo..didn't know that he used to work as John Corben but this actually could work with what I just read on mania. They stated that he'll be a reoccurring character this season, much like Doomsday was last year. I'm guessing that maybe he might be Lois's romantic interest since Clark is gone or maybe she'll come back from the future knowing about Metallo already? I wonder how they'll deal with this...hopefully not in the first episode of the season like they normally do. Also the article on Mania said that Zod has still not been casted and the producers might be waiting for the end of July and tie-it in for Comic Con. Seems a little late in the summer to announce such a major role...they casted Tess and Davis I think this time last year and had them both at Comic Con last year.
They should cast Jamie Bamber as Zod. His Apollo was as big a pompous ass as any to appear on television in decades.
I figured if they did spin off Smallville it'd probably be a Green Arrow series.
Of course they'll go with that, because that's who Metallo actually is and has been since he was created 50 years ago. Forget the Iron Man thing. That was a totally different character, unrelated to the Metallo we're talking about. In the comics, Metallo is a man with a human appearance over a robotic body. And he's always been portrayed that way in every one of his prior screen incarnations -- on the syndicated Superboy series, on Lois & Clark, in the DC Animated Universe, and on The Batman. You'd know this if you hadn't stopped reading the Wikipedia article after the third paragraph.
And of course they'll keep him mostly human in appearance, not just for budgetary reasons but for dramatic reasons. Look at how much more effective Doomsday was when he spent most of the season as Davis Bloome and the stories could be about a person rather than a special effect. No doubt the character will go by the name John Corben and the name "Metallo" will be only infrequently mentioned.
When Metallo appeared on Lois & Clark they didn't go for the whole Terminator look for the character. He was just Scott Valentine with a sneer. Funny thing is Scott Valentine was a client of my company and I had an interaction with him a few years ago. Decided to drop my professionalism and ask if he was that Scott Valentine and he admitted, grudgingly that he was. We kinda had a laugh about it. He was speaking to me from home and told me that his son and Dean Caine's son were friends and Cain's son was actually at his house at that moment. I had me a good geek moment. I mean there I was talking to fucking Metallo while the son of Superman was somewhere in the vicinity.

In the Post-Crisis, Metallo did take on a LOT of looks from the Terminator .
