USS Constellation, NCC-1017

Hey everybody. I decided to abandon the quad for a while, and do this. :)

I had this idea a while back, and built a model that I thought would be a cool idea... I thought, what if the USS Constellation we see in the Doomsday Machine episode wasn't a Constitution class ship at all, but an older type that was arranged in a similar configuration? This was my first attempt...

Now, I started over. All the green stuff is temporary, but I have the proportions worked out where I want them.

What do you guys think?

Hopefully I'll have some updates tonight. :)

You've got a great idea and a very good start. It looks like a Baton Rouge era ship from the Abramsverse. I wouldn't have had much of a problem with it as the Enterprise itself.

The pylons for the nacelles look out of place, too 'modern' compared to the rest of the body. Otherwise, off to a good start!

Yeah, I was kind of thinking that they may be a little too swept back. That'll be something to experiment with. :)

OK, an update as promised. :)

I was playing with the Nacelles... I'm going for a hybrid Kelvin Style, TOS Style, and Refit Style.

I've got a lot of tweaking to do, but I think I'm on the right track.

Wasn't there a ship design like this in the movie? Looks great. Love how you just keep on designing more ships from the new movie Madman.

Say, I like it. I'll add my voice to the chorus that the nacelle pylons still feel a bit too swept, but I like your attempt on the nacelles. However, I do miss some of the Kelvin nacelle styling cues from version one, particularly the forward caps. They had a very jet intake feel that I liked.

Still, looking forward to the growth of this. :)

Is this design supposed to fit in with "old school" TOS-TREK, or NuTREK, or both? I do like how your concept resembles one of Jefferies' early sketches for the Enterprise; I've long thought this would make a fine early-Constitution or pre-Constitution-type-cruiser.

If you want to do an "old school" version, may I suggest trying a "Cage"-style "anthill" bridge module on top of that saucer?

Well, I suppose NuTrek... since it was built after the Kelvin. I do like that the flatter saucer idea goes all the way back to that early sketch... I think I am going to find a way to add in those "ridges" on the secondary hull, somewhere. :)

Here's an update on the Nacelle... I made the Domes smaller, and put in some more "Jet Engine" intake kind of detail. I think it looks more like an evolution from the Kelvin design, this way.

I'm going to start tweaking the back end of the Nacelles next... I'm really enjoying adding all this extra junk on the surface. :)

Me likey.
:)

Here's a shot from the back... One of the Nacelles is almost completed, the other is still my sketch...

I took out some of the "sweep" in the pylons. Are these better, or should I straighten it up more? I don't want to get too close to the perfectly straight style, though...

Me likey! Especially the jet-inspired styling. ;)

Regarding the strut angle, here's a thought (take it or leave it ;)): why don't you have the strut itself have more parallel forward and rear edges, but retain about the same angle you have it at now? That might make it look less "sweepy." :)

OK, I think the Nacelles are done, except for maybe a few tweaks, later on.

Moving on to the Secondary Hull...
