Ok, I say a new cartoon would be a good addition at this point.

Put it on Nickelodeon which is owned by Viacom who also own Paramount, set it onboard the NuEnterprise just after the where the movie ends. All non-canon and has no bearing on the movie sequel.

Gear it towards kids 8-13ish and the next generation of fans are born!

It would also help toy sales and get some more fans for the new movie.

I am all for it. It should star Keenser, who despite some of our more dour BBS members, is appealing to the young ones.

For a science fiction show such as Star Trek aimed at 8-13 year old children the science would be practically nonexistent.
It would be all action adventure without violence.
When you take a show like Star Trek and dumb it down that much it should not have the Star Trek name on it.
If a animated show were aimed at getting a TV13 rating in the USA then they could do all of the above. I want the occasional space battle (i.e. violence) with crew getting hurt.
I don't want to see Trek Wars with all the plot revolving around a power-hungry antagonist like Megatron on "Transformers" mid-1980s TV series aimed at 10 year old kids.

If it cannot be targeted at a 13 and older audience I am not supporting the idea.

For all the reasons you just cited, I totally disagree. I would aim it at kids, and make it as kid friendly as possible. Why? To get them started on TREK at an earlier age. Waiting around for them to be 13 years old? No way. You start them on a kids version (yep, with silly stories about being friends..or tolerable about others..furry animal friends..ect) then as they get older, you have another cartoon aimed at 13 year olds.

Warners and Disney got it right..get them while they are young...

Good idea, only that Nickelodeon doesn't do action cartoons anymore (they sent them all over to the Nicktoons network) and any kid older than 11 years old is considered ready for retirement. 6-11 is the age group that Cartoon Network, Disney, and Nickelodeon fight for the most these days.

Then again, CBS might have something to say about Viacom trying to do a Star Trek TV series, regardless if it's animated or not...

Keenser? Come on! Kids like him because he's not the main character. They can use their imaginations to flesh him out. Plus, people (kids included) want to see the damned Enterprise flying around with Kirk and Spock. That's why they retconned the whole franchise in the first place and why it has been more appreciated than nearly anything since TOS. I'm all for animating a new TV series, but I think you'd have to be realistic and set it aboard the enterprise, or at least Starfleet Academy where the Enterprise and Pike show up regularly (that would be pre ST0).

I got into Star Trek as a child as did many of us here. The latest Star Trek movie is the most kid-friendly Trek has ever been and a cartoon based on it would do well and do the franchise a big favour.

Computer game and toy sales would go through the roof and most adults will not bother with it so they wont get tired of yet more Trek. Adult fanboys like us would watch it though :)

It would be blatantly aimed at kids, so yes I guess that means stuff blowing up and so on and bad jokes/one-liners however if the kids like it then thats good, I wouldn't expect people here to like it and nor should they :P
