I remember posting a similar poll here a few years back. It wasn't as complete as this one, as I didn't know about Christmas Vacation 2 at the time.

My favorite is the original Vacation. The sequels, even the immensely popular Christmas Vacation, never really seemed to measure up.

I especially like Clark's flipping out scene in Christmas Vacation over Vacation.

In Christmas Vacation, when he was freaking out over his lack of a Christmas bonus, it was absolutely hysterical. It wasn't just that he was ticked off, but so infuriated and frustrated that he was saying the first things that were popping into his head and would not stop. I always lose it when he finishes it off with, "Where's the Tylenol?!"

Didn't have any equivalent of that in either European or Vegas Vacation.

Christmas Vacation is one of the best comedies ever, and it is a tradition for me too.

I had no idea there was a Christmas sequel, though.

I love'em all except for Christmas Vacation 2 of course.

Christmas Vacation is actually a Christmas tradition in my home. We watch it every Christmas Eve. No one's allowed to watch it any other time. lol

LOL. It is a tradition in our house that we watch it, or at least hubby and I do on Thanksgiving!!!!

It begins our 'Christmas' season. :)

Yep. The Christmas season doesn't begin until the opening notes of Mavis Staples' Christmas Vacation theme begins. :D

Oh, and:

Christmas Vacation
Vacation
Vegas Vacation
European Vacation
Christmas Vacation II
(which was terrible).

J.

Christmas 2 is a straight to video piece of crap starring only Randy Quaid and no-one else.

Does anything really "star" Randy Quaid?

Wouldn't it be more honest to say "most of the time the camera is pointed at Randy Quaid."

The hillarious rant by Clark in Christmas Vacation puts it over the tope for me. It's hysterical. The original is a close second.

I've always felt that Christmas Vacation was a very underrated Christmas movie. People really enjoy telling me how it's not just a terrible holiday movie, but the worst of the Vacation series. I still don't get it!

That's wierd. Most people I know think of ...Christmas Vacation as a comedy holiday classic at this point. They play it every year on half the channels. I own the DVD. My family owns it, most of my friends have a copy. I mean who doesn't watch that movie every year?

And yes, it's my favourite, followed by the original. They're all decently funny.

It's too bad Chevy Chase seems to have fallen out of Hollywood favour, he was always one of my favourites growing up.

Re: Rank the "Vacation" movies!

So, for whatever reason, I felt like rewatching these movies.

My rank is:

Christmas Vacation
Vacation
European Vacation
Vegas Vacation
Christmas Vacation 2

Mine would be the same, except I never saw CV2. I've never even heard of it.

Christmas Vacation and Vacation were both excellent. European Vacation and Vegas Vacation were both fair.

JMHO

"We're gonna press on, and we're gonna have the hap, hap, happiest Christmas since Bing Crosby tap-danced with DANNY FUCKING KAYE!!!!!!!"

I agree completely.

Where's the Tylenol?!

Christmas Vacation
Vacation
The other 2

I watch Christmas Vacation every Christmas, damn it's funny.

I think the scene with Clark hanging the lights on the house in Christmas Vacation is about as funny as a movie can get. Everytime I see it: Clark's ladder crashing to the ground right after he climbs it, stapling his sleeve to the house, hanging onto the edge of the gutter which, seconds later, sends a huge piece of ice crashing through the neigbors' window. If that routine was done by anyone else, it wouldn't be nearly as funny, but there's just something about it being done by Chevy Chase that really elevates the comedy... and he barely says two words during the whole thing!

I've seen that about a million times and it'll never stop being funny for me. It just kills me every single time I see it.

I've actually grown to dislike Vegas Vacation quite a bit. It lacks both the spirit and comedy edge that the first three have. The whole Hoover Dam sequence was a real missed opportunity. When Clark was stuck on the dam and had to climb, I found that whole thing a little outrageous. It was as if they turned Clark into a bumbling buffoon in Vegas. I never got that impression in the first three.
