Star Trek Parody Idea

Imagine a Red vs. Blue like show made using the game engine from Elite Force (Quake). It would be Star Trek like but it would be silly and comical and irreverant, and hilarious.

Granted there would be differences, I'd prefer to be a little bit more serious, and I wouldn't use the basic plot of RvB (RvB: The whole series is a computer controlled simulation -- major spoiler I know)

Anyone think that would be cool?

BTW: Post 1000, I'm a fleet-captain!

If you did this right it could be interesting. Red v. Blue is hit or miss, and IMHO mostly miss. Star Trek parodies, especially these days, tend to be tiresome and not funny. You would have to really hit upon something different, new, and/or special.

I think a Star Trek humor series right now would have to be not only a "funny take on Star Trek", but also an inversion of the core concepts of Star Trek.

The obvious step everyone takes is to make everyone on the main ship assholes, but there's a lot more one can do. The devil, is in the concept as far as I'm concerned. The concept has to be in of itself conducive to unique humor.

I have a few ideas floating around, but haven't gotten around to writing regarding them.

Fanfilms of any kind are tough though. Especially machinima... which is a pretty difficult genre, although it at least allows you to scrape by with a smaller cast and preset setting.

I'd say that an effective Star Trek comedy would be far tougher than most other subgenres of fanfilm.

There's actually a comedic Star Trek machinima out there called "Star Traks: Silverado" (In the interest of full disclosure, I know the guy who made it, and I helped out with the writing and the voices). It's on youtube in 7 or 8 segments. It was his first attempt and he wasn't sure what he could pull off, so the first segment (which became the teaser) is really just the characters sitting around the ship's lounge. The story picks up more in part 2.

Humor is hard. Fan films are hard. Star Trek parody is especially hard (since 99% of it is recycled). Your idea, therefore, is very, very hard.

That said, I loved RvB and did watch all 100 episodes. If you think you can pull this off, I say go for it. Like, now.

Well, I was watching Silverado... at least the first few minutes of the first video...

I'm thinking of something that for the most part is serious, but occasionally has some silly moments.
