First, Kill All the Firemen

Like, seriously. These guys don't put their lives on the line quite enough for us, apparently.

Run into burning buildings, dangle from wires, climb trees for cats... nope, not enough for us. You have to prove your mettle for us.

So, take this boot and go stand in the middle of a busy intersection during rush hour. Why you say? So 1/8th of the people can put $1 in your boot.

Seriously? Why do we do this to these guys?

Actually, fill the boot is for MD.

I don't understand what the thread is about.

Firefighters do an annual fundraiser for muscular dystrophy called 'Fill the Boot' where they stand at intersections and encourage drivers to drop money into a fireman's boot. ThankQ is either joking (badly) or seems to be under the impression that they do this to raise money for their own budgets.

Or I think it's silly dangerous, and an utterly foolish way to raise money--for anything.

^No, that's just kinda the way I phrased it.

Come on, guys, ya gotta keep up. Look for the underlying message. Don't get so hung up on the words.

I'm fluent in all three dialects of TehBabalun, so I don't think interpreting the underlying message is really my problem.

I am however a big fan of speaking plainly.

First, they volunteer, so it's not "us" doing anything to "those guys".

Secondly, has their been a rash of accidents and deaths involving these firefighters I'm not aware of?

Of all the things to bitch about.

I doubt it. I see everything from charities to newspapers to bouquet salesmen roaming between cars stopped at busy intersections in my neighborhood. I'm sure that they would've been prohibited if they were getting hurt with any kind of regularity.

I haven't seen any this year, but I usually do; and I always give them something whenever I pass, because they're Firemen and because it's a good cause. :bolian:

I thought it was training and we were supposed to try and hit them so they could work on their agility. Opps.
