Letterman beating Conan

After what he said about Sarah Palin's daughter he should get the IMUS treatment.

If Rush Limbaugh or anyone else had said what he did about one of Obama's girls -- they'd be gone.

I've never thought Letterman was funny anyway, but what he said about Willow Palin is disgusting and vile.

His "apology" was even worse.

CBS should cancel his show...and Todd Palin should kick his ass into the next century.

Are you kidding? Limbaugh's fans would love it. And Rushykins has said way worse things that that.

It was about Bristol not Willow. Palin and her fans are making way too much of a deal about this. Easy to be confused though as she has too many kids to keep track of anyway.

His "apology" was even worse.
Actually his 9 minute apology was pretty heart-felt and way more genuine then Imus's was.

CBS should cancel his show...and Todd Palin should kick his ass into the next century.
And maybe they can cancel Two and a Half Men while they're at it. Makes perfect business sense.

You could not be more wrong about Limbaugh's fans. They wouldn't put up with that for one second. And please provide examples of things Rush has said that are worse than making a "joke" out of statutory rape of Willow Palin (It was the 14 year old on the trip to NY with Sarah -- not Bristol -- the 18 Yr old). I'll be waiting for evidence of your serious allegation.

And this is a problem -- why?

His "apology" was even worse.

No, he tried to make a joke of it -- and again -- not funny. In fact, it made it worse. Heartfelt? Please.

CBS should cancel his show...and Todd Palin should kick his ass into the next century.

So, in your mind, as long as the ratings are good then anything Letterman wants to say should be fair game? Man, that's some really solid moral convictions you have there...

If this uproar on the part of Dittoheads were to occur they would actually need to disagree with Rush. Something that isn't possible. That's why they're called Dittoheads.

An example? You mean besides years of race-baiting that would put Imus's comment to shame? Like when he got booted as a sports commentator for ESPN because he tried to racialize The NFL? Well ok. There was this joke he did about Chelsea Clinton back when she was 12 about being "The White House Pet Dog." Never even said so much as "my bad. I went too far." In fact, he still denies he ever said it to this day when confronted by it. The more racist the comments he makes, the more his fans love him.

And this is a problem -- why?
Because Bristol has willingly put herself in the public eye where as Willow is still a minor and has not.

No, he tried to make a joke of it -- and again -- not funny. In fact, it made it worse. Heartfelt? Please.
You didn't even bother watching it did you? He was clearly sorry.

Moral convictions and ratings mean nothing compared to The First Amendment. Which is what both Letterman and Rush use everyday. If you don't like it, don't watch it.

QVM:

You've apparently never listened to his show. Dittohead means you agree with MANY of his POINTS regarding political POLICY. I can be a dittohead on one issue and NOT a dittohead on another. At any rate, no one who calls into his show calls themselves a "Dittohead". That's something your prescious media latched onto in a lame attempt to belittle Limbaugh. If you think Rush is a race baiter, you are insane. But I can say your side clearly plays the RACE CARD...and they do it ad nauseum -- ad infinitem!

The comment he made on MNFB (if I recall correctly) was that something like most blacks are better athletes or some such. I tend to agree. That's not a "racist" comment -- that's an observation based on years of watching sports.

You obviously never listen to his show. I've never heard anyone -- for one, I've never heard HIM belittle any politicians KIDS -- but if they did, no one would "applaud" him for that and you're insane if you think they would. Now, kids who are adult offspring of politicians who make political comments in the public eye ARE fair game.

And this is a problem -- why?
Because Bristol has willingly put herself in the public eye where as Willow is still a minor and has not.

QVM:

Again -- it was WILLOW who was in NY not Bristol. The joke wasn't pointed at Bristol -- however, he later tried to come back and do a "save" by SAYING he was referring to Bristol.

Lame. Nobody -- except you and maybe two others -- is fooled.

No, he tried to make a joke of it -- and again -- not funny. In fact, it made it worse. Heartfelt? Please.
You didn't even bother watching it did you? He was clearly sorry.

QVM: I watched it. He made a complete mockery of it. He was not the least bit sorry. He tried to worm his way out of it and tried to "joke" his way out of it.

It's not working. At least not with me.

So, in your mind, as long as the ratings are good then anything Letterman wants to say should be fair game? Man, that's some really solid moral convictions you have there...

I don't watch it. But even better I don't think anyone else should watch such a morally bankrupt idiot either. I call for equal treatment in the media. If Imus could be fired, then so should Letterman.

I seriously call on CBS to do so.

This kind of vile "humor" has no place on TV, the radio or ANYWHERE!

I dislike Conan more than Letterman, and I have Letterman banned for life.

:guffaw::guffaw::guffaw:

Yeah, me too.

Really, late night TV has outlived it's usefulness. It was good when Carson was on there...but about the time he left was when the novelty of late night TV was beginning to wear off.

Dave is awesome, Conan is good, Ferguson would be great if he wasn't so repetitive with his formula (get people out of audience, read email etc)

Fallon is abysimal and will always be unfunny. Carson Daly doesn't deserve to be mentioned (whoops).

And if you have even seen what Dave actually said or his apology then you don't have a right to comment on it.

For me, my order of favorite talk show hosts goes thusly as follows:

Ferguson, Leno, Conan, Letterman, Fallon*

I've only seen a few episodes of Jimmy Fallon so it probably isn't fair for me to put him up there, hence the asterisk. I've always been a big Leno fan so I was pretty astonished when I liked Mr. Wick -- sorry, Craig more than him.

First off, this how you use Quotes correctly:

You've apparently never listened to his show. Dittohead means you agree with MANY of his POINTS regarding political POLICY. I can be a dittohead on one issue and NOT a dittohead on another. At any rate, no one who calls into his show calls themselves a "Dittohead". That's something your prescious media latched onto in a lame attempt to belittle Limbaugh. LIBRUL MEDIAZ!!! RUNN FOR UR LIFEZ!! SAFE UZ RUSHHH!!

The comment he made on MNFB (if I recall correctly) was that something like most blacks are better athletes or some such. I tend to agree. That's not a "racist" comment -- that's an observation based on years of watching sports.
Actually it was that "Donovan McNabb was overrated because sports reporters wanted a black quarterback to succeed.". He could have just said he's overrated and given stats and facts to why he was overrated. But he didn't. But he had to go that extra dickish step. Even when something has nothing to do with politics and race, he makes it about politics and race.

I just gave you an example. But you aren't interested in reality, you're interested in reactionary outrage. He played that for laughs and there was little to no outrage on the part of his fans. Mostly because, at that time, thier hatred for Bill Clinton outweighed everything else. Now preach to me about morals.

It clearly was. The only thing he was guilty of here was being misinformed.

QVM: I watched it. He made a complete mockery of it. He was not the least bit sorry. He tried to worm his way out of it and tried to "joke" his way out of it.

It's not working. At least not with me.
The only way it would work with you is if he got down on all fours and kissed Caribou Barbies $500,000 dollar Armani pumps in forgiveness. Not gonna happen. Letterman is a cultural institution. Sarah Palin isn't even a blip on everyones radar.

I don't watch it. But even better I don't think anyone else should watch such a morally bankrupt idiot either. I call for equal treatment in the media. If Imus could be fired, then so should Letterman.

First off, Imus shouldn't have been fired. That was complete bullshit. I'm opposed to The Free Speech Police from all political camps.

Second off, "WON'T SOMEONE PULLLEASSSE THINK OF THE CHILDREN!!". No one should ever be fired or made to be punished for exercising their First Amendment rights. It was wrong when it happened to Rush. It was wrong when it happened to Imus. It was wrong when it happened to The Dixie Chicks.

I wonder how many people had to be told after the fact which daughter Letterman was referring to before being outraged?

Conan and Fallon will have jobs as long as they bring in the key demographics that they're doing now, and which both were hired to. It was this fact that saved Conan back in the day, and NBC's knows it and is the main reason behind the radical re-structuring in late night.

Letterman is not going ANYWHERE. Don Imus... even though I'm not his biggest fan... should not have been fired, either. "Nappy headed hos" is no worse than "Barack the Magic Negro." And, while we're on the subject, how about Rush Limbaugh's commentary he aired about Michael J. Fox faking his Parkinson's Disease?

No, Letterman should not be fired for making a "knocked up" joke about the Palin daughter, Bristol, who actually WAS "knocked up." Palin is within her rights to come to Bristol's (not Willow's) defense as her mother. However, she's delusional if she thinks that parading around said daughter, in effect exploiting her underage pregnancy in front of the whole entire nation, entitles her to sympathy when a comedian makes a joke. Where was the outrage over Limbaugh's comparison of the Clintons' daughter to their pet dog? Why wasn't HE taken off the air?

Hell, the very act of accusing Letterman of joking about her 14-year old daughter in turn exposes THAT daughter to the public. Still doesn't make the joke entirely ok, but it's not an inexcusable offense.... not when the man has apologized on camera and had it fall on deaf ears.

Letterman kicks ass. I've been watching his shows for years and even when he's bad he's funny because he knows his jokes are falling flat. Ferguson is amazing as well and he's one of the funniest people I've seen on television.

Hey guess what, ALL the comedians were cracking jokes about Bristol getting knocked up last year (including Leno):
http://abcnews.go.com/Entertainment/story?id=5719503&page=1

And yes, the joke was clearly about Bristol. She was the one all over the news last year for getting knocked up, and the one everyone already knows about (hell, I'm sure most people forgot Sarah Palin even HAD another daughter).

Yeah it's still a tasteless joke no matter what, but not NEARLY to the degree it would be if directed at a 14 year old. Frankly I find it ugly and disgusting that people would think Letterman was even capable of such a thing.

Anyone who's been watching him for ANY time at all knows that behind that gruff, wise-ass exterior, he's actually a very decent and thoughtful man at heart (just look at his comments after 911 for proof of that).

To suggest otherwise is fucking ridiculous.

I wonder how many people had to be told after the fact which daughter Letterman was referring to before being outraged?

I really wonder if the synapses of some the brains in this thread even fire.

WILLOW was on the NY trip with Sarah Palin -- not BRISTOL! Ergo the comment about A NEW YORK BALL PLAYER engaging in statutory rape of minor. DAMN...what part of that is so hard to understand. You're just being obtuse.

It has NOTHING to do with confusion or any other bullshit excuse!

Letterman is scum and so are any of you condoning his so-called "joke". Whether we're talking about Palin or even a private citizen -- or one of your siblings -- it's irrelevant. The comments were disgusting and vile.

Letterman should be punished as all conservatives who get called on the SLIGHTEST comment are punished within the STATE OBAMA MEDIA (and don't...don't even presume to tell me the media is not biased. You've lost your minds if you think otherwise!).

No wonder Letterman thinks he can joke his way out of this. I guess people really are as stupid as he thinks they are.

Regardless, for every perceived comment from a conservative that "offends" I can think of TWO (at least) from every socialist to match.

Too bad some of YOU can't put DECENCY above politics. But, since your socialist friend Letterman is making this comment it's ok.

You're sickening and pathetic.

All I can say is, the next time a conservative makes some stupid and vile comment about someone's kid (I doubt it will happen -- but SHOULD it...)-- I'll expect tolerance and understanding from you!

Idiots!!!
