Indiana Jones and the Staff of Kings

Broccoli

Anyone here pick it up today? I got it for PS2.

So far I am enjoying it, but the game strikes me as being really, really short. I played for about an hour and a half this evening and, according to the main menu, I am 33% through the game already.

This surprises me, considering the two previous Indy games were very long and involved.

The controls take a little getting use to and I don't really like how you can only use your gun at certain spots. On the flip side, you do end up using the whip a LOT (which probably is a plus for the Wii version).

The story is, so far, interesting (please no spoilers). With the way the cut screens and the narrative build, this game feels very cinematic (more more than the previous games - not that the games were bad; they weren't - I loved them; it is just that some story elements were so far out there that it wouldn't work in a film, even an Indy film). I can Staff of Kings as an Indy movie.

I am curious to see what people think of Harrison Ford's render. His PS2 version looks a little...off. It looks more like a Harrison Ford lookalike, as opposed to Harrison Ford. His likeness was better in Emperor's Tomb, imo. That being said, the facial expressions are really, really good for a PS2 game. The little touches really make it feel like Indiana Jones as opposed to a generic action adventure game.

So, thoughts? How to the other versions compare?

I'm interested in this game, though I'm fairly backlogged and I have to get Ghostbusters next week so I'm going to put it off for awhile.

I do plan on getting the Wii version though since it includes Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis as a bonus.

I'm obsessed with Indy.

The PS2 game looks to be pretty cheap, especially at Amazon. I wonder if Hubby will let me get it?

That is so cool! Fate of Atlantis was the first real computer game I ever played! And I never beat it. I couldn't get past that ****ing octopus in Atlantis. It drove my sister and I bat**** trying to figure out what we were doing wrong. Like we were missing an item we needed or something.

I got this email from Sear's today about the $30 price they had on their site:

According to the shipping email I'll be getting it today. :techman:

So... they accidentally put the game $20 less than they should have, and you bought it, and they gave it to you for FREE? Good deal!

I actually found out the reason today, I got my package and it was a Rock Band Track Pack. My guess is that's what the page was supposed to be, which is why they're sending me a free copy.

My son is wanting this one. I might get it for him if he's good

You have a Wii, right? By a lot of accounts, the Wii version is mediocre at best, and the Fate of Atlantis bonus is really just gravy for people who were playing PC games in the early '90s. You might want to save your money.

I'll have him read the reviews :techman: His video game needs, at 11 are lower than an adult's. He LOVED for, example, Force Unleashed for Wii that some were critical of.

Thanks :)

Well, I just beat the game for PS2.

While it had it's moments, it was ultimately underwhelming. Compared to the two previous games (Emperor's Tomb and Infernal Machine), the game was severely lacking. The story was kinda good, but the game play was very much lacking. Mechanics aside, the games biggest sin is that it is very, very short. It took me 7 1/2 hours on hard (and I'm a terrible gamer - think how quickly it'll take good gamers).

I am very surprised by this, honestly. One of the reasons I picked the game up was that I wanted a sprawling, long, drawn out summer game to play.

Also, the levels were very limiting on what you could do. Previous games had Indy be able to go really anywhere he wanted to in a level. Here, you are forced on a more-or-less fixed path.

Also, the fact that you can use your gun in only specific situations is very, very bizarre. Maybe they wanted to highlight using the whip more for Wii versions (which I can imagine being a lot of fun for the Wii), but it struck me as odd that Indy would be in a room full of Nazi...er...I mean Germans and not be able to reach for his gun? This makes little sense logically. But, I can let that go as the game desingers were after the whip use.

Also, the game has little replay value. Once you go through it, that's it. The few things you unlock are "meh" at best. Also, the artificts (Indy hats) are very easy to find the first time through.

They do have some unique levels to the game, such as flying the plane, that are pretty fun. But those levels are over right as they are gearing up.

In the end, I am glad I bought it; it is fun and very Indiana Jones. But, in hindsight, I should have waited until it dropped in price.

Trippy, your kid will probably like this. If he liked Force Unleashed, he'll probably like this.
