Sequel Rumors Spell Doom?

Rumors about Khan showing up in STXII. Rumors about Jack Black playing Harry Mudd. Now, JJ himself has shot down the Black as Mudd rumor, but his friend Greg Grunberg has said that he would absolutely love to play Mudd, and would even don the big mustache and earring. But they have a whole new timeline/reality, so how about all new characters and stories. It's not supposed to be your fathers Star Trek so let's leave dad's episodes behind and move forward. If all they're going to do is rework TOS episodes in upcoming sequels this new movie franchise will die a quick death.
 
I tend to agree with the OP. There can be small elements from prior episodes, but please, no direct lifts or remakes. If you must use the Klingons, then maybe have a warrior named Kang among them, but nothing more direct than that.
 
As far as I can tell, all of the Khan "rumors" have come from sensationalized headlines that amount to "we asked them about it and they didn't say no."

I have no problem with Jack Black as Harry Mudd. Haven't we learned the lesson-it doesn't matter what the background of the actors is (Pine from teenybopper films) Black would be perfect for the role.

All that matters is a good script, wit, fun and humor. And as long as editing, direction, and artwork are all ship-shape and considerations are made for the genre--wah-la---another great Trek movie.
 
They're spinning all sorts of rumours - I assume that means these are definitely not going to be in the movie - if something was actually going to be in the movie, they'd deflect attention immediately.

Look for what they aren't talking about ;)

Star Trek XII: Invasion of the Lens Flares

Starfleet has to defend the Alpha quadrant from a non-corporeal race of lens flares bent on blinding the human race.
