Sequel Rumors Spell Doom?

I have no problem with Jack Black as Harry Mudd. Haven't we learned the lesson-it doesn't matter what the background of the actors is (Pine from teenybopper films) Black would be perfect for the role.

Not the same. Pine was pretty much a nobody, a fresh face to a lot of people. Jack Black is a lot more well known and very often his name is above the titles of his movies (not King Kong thankfully). But casting a well-known comedy guy smells of Superman III and the original idea for Star Trek VI. I would hate to see any casting in any role in the Trek films overshadow the rest of it. Jack Black's involvement was shot down, but I see the point in not being happy with the idea.

Actually, the less I know, the better. I tried to stay away from this forum until the movie came out, and avoiding all the spoilers and intimate details about the trailers helped me enjoy the movie more!

Harry Mudd would be a terrible idea. It would turn the movie into a comedy/sci-fi, which I doubt your average moviegoer is going to be attracted to as much.

wasn't Ricardo Montalban in something in which a fat dwarf repeatedly bleated "the plane... the plane!"?

if written well, it can be done.

not that I want this.

On Khan I am firmly in the No camp. Trek movies have been living in TWOK's shadow for over two decades, let's leave it at Nero and be done with it.

Greg Grunberg, however, would be outstanding as Harry Mudd.

Paramount and J.J. have to be loving this. ST09 is still making about $1 million a weekday, and there's already buzz about what the next movie may be.

Hell, if I were J.J., I'd just grin and keep feeding grist to the rumor mill. Khan, Mudd, doesn't matter. Keep people talking.

If the Harry Mudd of "I, Mudd", then you're probably right. I'm not really a fan of the idea of recycling plots and characters any more than has been done already, but something along the lines of the more sinister and menacing Leo Walsh/Harry Mudd character of "Mudd's Women" might not be a bad thing, or at least not automatically so.

You need to clam down.

Just a thought for discussion. Blood pressure OK.

How the heck does one "clam" down?
I think that's the next thing that happens after the waitress sets the plate of clams on the half shell in front of you.

Pass the lemon, Tabasco and horseradish, please!
