Did anyone here wanted Star Trek to fail?

At times I did. Mostly because there was a long period there where I thought it was going to be a garbage movie. I thought, if it failed, Paramount would take 10-15 years to try again, and then a real, fresh, clean reboot would be possible.

Glad I was wrong.

I'll be interested to see the response in this thread. I think that there were a few posters around here who wanted it to fail - not because of anything they'd actually seen (or even heard from an official source), but just to win an argument around here.

Of course, no one is going to admit that...but I think there are a few. ;)

I know a poster on another forum who was convinced that if this movie failed then Paramount would "see the light" and make another TNG movie.

what kind of mean spirited person would really want that? that would have probably been the nail in the coffin for more movies and series. everyone one Trek loses that way. cutting off the nose to spite the face is what that would be.

I'm convinced there were quite a few around here. Let's wait and see if anyone admits to it.

You know who you are!

Many people pointed that out to him but he has a history of being irrational and unwilling to listen to reason.

Seems extremely odd to be a member of this forum and to root for the subject matter of this forum to fail. And yet there are a few of these poor lost souls. As long as they're in the minority, I don't really care.

For quite a number of people here, the film *has* failed.

Of course, they keep moving the goalposts to change the requirements in order for the movie to fail...

I did'n want it to fail...was actually looking forward to it with great interest. It just wasn't that good is all.

^ I can understand his feelings being hurt. But it would have been a very looong stretch to write him into the movie.

I could give you a few screen names, but I don't know if I'd get a warning for it.

Yeah, safer to play it close to the vest with matter than can be stored in a bank tube until it is unleashed, so it can create a black hole that allows ships to pass safely trough unharmed.

I sort of did, mainly as I was not looking forward to more canon violations, but I guess this being an alternate timeline and unique yet reminiscent ships it can stand on it's own. I just hope it doesn't grow into a long neutrek thing. I rather like the traditional timeline.

No i'm glad star trek will live on in one form or another even if its not the star trek i grew up with.

^that's the idea!

Exactly.

That's what I want these people to understand. For some reason, many Trek fans seem to believe they have the right to dictate to a entertainment studio what stories they should tell, how the should be told, who should tell them, etc.

Hell, do you think I wanted Sorkin to leave The West Wing? God, the show went to shit. So you know what? I stopped watching.
