Star Trek Trailer Wins Two Awards

The 10th Annual Golden Trailer Awards were given out last night and Star Trek took home two awards:

- Best in Show
- Summer 2009 Blockbuster

Definitely not a surprise for Trek to get an award for its trailer. I know several people who were not big Trek fans who wanted to see the movie after seeing the trailer.

Yeh we basically got to watch two thirds of the movie before it was even released.

Since I had kept myself completely spoiler free and avoided this forum like the plague, I wasn't able to put any plot together from the trailers - so it merely enticed me, without actually revealing any plot, just exciting glimpses, which had me impatient for the grand opening. Did the job wonderfully!

yes, apparently if you can fit all of the films action scenes into a trailer you win an award.

I would say the trailer with the "JAMES T KIRK WAS A GREAT MAN" or "FIRE EVERYTHING!" line hooked a lot of people. I know a lot of people going "Wow, this looks amazing" who were not Star Trek fans.

I don't know...I think there's a certain art to creating a strong, entertaining and effective trailer.

It's certainly an exercise in effective editing.

I'm glad I hadn't seen this one. Completely spoiler-y.
The one we could see in France was more about the childhoods, if I remember correctly. Similar, if not identical, to an American one with the car over the cliff scene. Was that the first?

I did think putting Vulcan getting eaten by the black hole in there was a bit strange. I know most people wouldn't know what it was, or wouldn't watch it more than once or twice but still....two and two together when you're watching the film.
