Interesting moment for me...

People here may know that I did not love the new film. I did not *hate* it; there were things in it I really liked and others I really did not, but it was not what I was expecting and I have been grappling with the film and its implications on many levels since I saw it.

Anyway, today I went to my local Toys R Us to pick up something for my daughter, and I could not help but notice the prominent and IMMENSE display of ST toys. There were new TOS toys, TNG toys, Movie-era toys, ENT toys (yes, new ENT toys) and of course many toys for the new movie. Kids (and adults) were very interested in the toys, and not just the stuff from the new movie.

Despite my misgivings about the new film, it was definitely good to see Trek featured prominently like that and to see people interested in all things Trek. I hope that Trek continues to go strong in years to come, and today at TRU I was glad to see that older series were not being completely discarded or shunted aside as a matter of course.

It was an interesting experience for me as a lifelong Star Trek fan.

my 14 month old daughter loves my/her phaser and I hope to give her every opportunity to embrace star trek in the future :D

ENT Toys? Hmmm, nothing on their website, although they have a good selection from TOS and the new movie. Guess I'll have to check out the nearest store after work. :bolian:

More anecdotal evidence of a resurgent Trek!

My son and I watched 3 episodes of Enterprise yesterday (2D2N and Shockwave I & II)

He is 16 and really likes the show, as do several of his non-stereotypically geek friends.

And I'm alive to see it! :)

They had a really cool looking new NX-01 model, one of a series of new models. All of the kits are featured in a separate display, right next to the main display.

When I last went, I was informed that all of the Burger Kings in the Phoenix area were sold out of the collectible Star Trek glasses. I was bummed because I was at least hoping to get the Kirk & Spock ones. Maybe the success of this line will cause them to come out with new series of glasses to correspond with the DVD release this fall?

Right now, I guess I'll have to remain satisfied with my previous Star Trek cups. I got a glass one depicting "Fal-tor-pan" from Star Trek III, a Star Trek: Insurrection mug, and a couple plastic Star Trek: Generations cups from Jack in the Box.

Love the trek merchandise! Isn't Burger King giving away Star Trek glasses?

You can buy them for $2 a piece.

A lot of the BK's have sold out of them already. I was at one this morning and tried to get a Kirk one (the only one I don't have) and was told that they are no longer stocking new ones. A lot of the stores were worried about getting stuck with them and only ordered a bare minimum of glasses - reducing the production order. Pretty much at the moment the only one that is still easily found is Nero.
