E3 2009 Discussion thread HOLY SHIT MONKEY ISLAND IS BACK

Re: E3 2009 Discussion thread

I'm sure Mass Effect 2 will have a pretty big E3 presence, but Bioware recently announced that Dragon Age will be coming out this October so I doubt we'll see Mass Effect 2 this year unless Bioware wants to compete with itself.

Mass Effect 2 is early 2010.
Hey I was right. My logic didn't fail me. :)

I guess I'll make do with just Dragon Age this fall, I'm actually looking forward to it more then Mass Effect 2 since I loved the Baldur's Gate games and it's supposed to be a spiritual successor.

Re: E3 2009 Discussion thread

I can't think of anything I'm looking forward to at E3. Heretofore unannounced games, obviously.

Re: E3 2009 Discussion thread

IGN's now saying that they'll have coverage of some "big Wii games" at midnight.

This is one of the things I love about E3... watching this sort of hype happen and people going crazy over it. And Twitter is making it all the better!

I'm not surprised we're starting to see some big Wii game announcements, after all it usually takes about 2 years to develop big games and about 2 years ago was when developers and publishers started to realize the Wii isn't a fad.

6:30GMT is the Microsoft show so me and 2 friends like last year running it live while in 3 way chat on MSN ;) I wish it was on over weekend at late afternoon early evening (E3) so I could have a E3 gaming night  (Wi60 nights we call it)

Yeah I'll be watching the Microsoft and Nintendo (and possibly the Sony) show while chatting with one of my friends. We've been doing it for the past few years and it's always been a lot of fun.

We'll be chatting on Steam though since we're just that hardcore. Also we both have Steam accounts. :techman:

I'm actually looking forward to ME2 more. I was kind of disappointed when I heard that Dragon Age was going to be more like Baldur's Gate. Maybe it's just because I didn't play any of the BG games.

That, and Mass Effect is one of my favorite games of all time. I've wasted way too many hours on it.

If it has Boo, I'll buy two copies.

Re: E3 2009 Discussion thread

ME2 will still be hyped at E3, if the trailers are any indication. I think they're actually going to show gameplay now.

Sadly Atari has the rights to Baldur's Gate so it's impossible for the actual Boo to be in it, though I suppose they could always include a Boo like miniature giant space hamster.

I'm not really into the top-down RPGs. Then again, I loved NWN, and wasn't the gameplay in that similar to BG? What I see from DA reminds me a lot of the NWN games.

Yeah the Baldur's Gate games are pretty similar to Neverwinter Nights, though a little closer to the way you actually play Dungeons and Dragons then NWN was.

The Dark Alliance console games are really nothing like the Baldur's Gate PC games, in the PC games you control a full party and explore a pretty open world.

It's been awhile since I played BG1 or 2 and I imagine that the mechanics don't hold up as well today as newer D&D games do (especially since it's 2nd edition D&D, which I personally don't like) but I would think they are still very playable. For example death was final in the Baldur's Gate games unless you had high level resurrection spells or reloaded the game (jam that quick save key :techman:), and they were somewhat hard games. Still I would think that they are both still very playable.

I really loved the character interactions (especially in Baldur's Gate 2 where they really fleshed it out), and Minsc and Boo remain in my all time favorite videogame characters.

If you're interested in trying them out do an eBay search for Baldur's Gate collection, you can get both games plus their expansion pack for less then $30 shipped. If you do I would recommenced doing a search for Baldur's Gate widescreen mod, which will allow you to play the game in resolutions higher then 800x600.

Re: E3 2009 Discussion thread

Holy shit! Monkey Island returns!

Now who didnt see any of those coming

Im sort of looking forwards to Splinter Cell: Conviction. If there was one thing the Splinter Cell franchise was good it, it was innovating and changing itself with each game

Who's the dipstick on stage plugging Natal? Acting like the Wii never existed. The way he kept clapping for himself and his stiff delivery made me turn the channel.
