Final Numbers (really!) - Trek #5 - $12.6 M, $209.3 M and $310.7 M

Re: Early Weekend Estimate - Trek #5 - $12.8 M - $209.5 M - $300 M Glo

It was excellent. A real throw back.

really?! that's good to know, thank you! :)

so, not too gory but scary, right? can I please ask: on a scale of truly scary from 1 thru 10 (1 being the least), what would you give it?

I can't really rate it like that as I don't find any movies scary really, but I will say I saw more people jumping and screaming during the movie than most horror movies have. Still its PG-13 so keep that in mind. If you like horror, go see it.

Agreed. As I get older I find there is much more true horror right outside our windows. :( As a fun jump and scream show DMTH is a very good movie. My wife almost tossed our bag of popcorn on the folks in front of us when she jumped a couple of times!

$300 mill Global? REALLY? WOW! never thought that would happen.

Re: Early Weekend Estimate - Trek #5 - $12.8 M - $209.5 M - $300 M Glo

Worldwide is now at $311 million. Foreign box office is now at $101.5 million, with $8 million this weekend (including 2.2M from Japan opening).

This is excellent. When the movie opened, I recall a Paramount Exec stating that the initial goal was $100 million foreign, which would be a siginificant improvement over recent Star Trek movies. We have reached this goal!!!

Re: Weekend Estimate - Trek #5 - $12.8 M - $209.5 M - $311 M Global

I truly thought Star Trek was dead after Nemesis and ENT's cancellation. When I heard of a reboot I thought it would never work and it would be the final nail in the coffin. Now I am grateful Paramount proved me wrong by hiring the perfect writers and director and making this a truly fun and epic film that revitalized the franchise. Thank you Paramount!

Re: Weekend Estimate - Trek #5 - $12.8 M - $209.5 M - $311 M Global

Just got back from seeing it a fifth time... had to beat my (inexplicable) four times viewing Nemesis, I guess. Went with a neighbor who I've known 12 years, a 22 year old "kid" who fixes computer problems for us for whom I've been a bit of a father figure, but anyway.

I couldn't believe what I witnessed on entering the theater--3/4 full, and a good sized venue. I thought he and I and a handful of other die-hards would be the only ones there, but I was wrong.

The composition looked to be fans and novices alike, especially guys with their dates. Star Trek seems to be all things all of a sudden--A Trek fan's delight (mostly), a family film, an action extravaganza, and chick flick...

I'm impressed...!

Hahaha...I had to beat my four viewings of Nemesis too. I'm at six and will likely go at least once or twice more.

There are few films that I enjoy viewing two or three times--Borat is one that comes to mind--but even after my fifth, I found myself thinking 'one more time'...

And that opening sequence has got to be one of the most powerful heart-tugging scenes of all time. Even knowing what's coming now, I find myself having to not well up...

I am amazed how many had little faith in Star Trek. Granted Nemesis flopped but that was because TNG didn't transcend to the big screen as well as TOS did. Plus the fact TNG had only one good actor Patrick Stewart. Also i blame franchise fatigue. There were other reasons f.c. Star Trek franchise needed a new blood.
When i heard Paramount was making a new prequel/roboot movie with young TOS crew. I knew if done right, it would be great success. This has really nothing to do with Abrams or the writers but rather Kirk & Spock are iconic. If you want thank someone. Thank Roddenberry and people that helped him to create TOS characters.

Re: Weekend Estimate - Trek #5 - $12.8 M - $209.5 M - $311 M Global

Another good weekend for Trek. I notice that after the last weekend in May, Iron Man still pulled in another $42 million dollars, so $250M might not be completely out of reach for Star Trek. I'm keeping hope alive.

I saw it, fifth time yesterday, sunday, and the theatre was 70% full. I was shocked at how many people were there, and VERY glad, very very glad, that most of them were families. The Nay-sayers can nay-say all they want...but fact is undeniable. STAR TREK has legs, and it is laying the foundation to a new era of fans. And that can only be a GOOD thing.

We'll see. It'll be close. Iron Man's fifth weekend was higher than Trek's fourth weekend though, which might be an indication it won't make it as far.

It definitely will not make it as far, but it still has a while to go. 235 Seems likely.

Re: Early Weekend Estimate - Trek #5 - $12.5 million - $209 million

I like these box office returns!

They're exciting!

They are indeed. And I can say that my FIVE TIMES seeing it helped paved the way for so many...I was there again just yesterday being sure to 'initiate' applause at the appropriate scenes..and laughter at others...cheerleader is my new title...

Re: Early Weekend Estimate - Trek #5 - $12.5 million - $209 million

Well, I'm taking a friend to see it next weekend when he comes up. Can you believe that he can't get any of his friends to go with him at home?

4 times will be my new record for seeing a movie in theater (I saw Fellowship 3 times).

Re: Weekend Estimate - Trek #5 - $12.8 M - $209.5 M - $311 M Global

My wife and I are going for our third time this weekend, and the following weekend I'm going again with a couple old Trek friends. I can honestly say that I haven't seen a movie multiple times since the original Star Wars back in 1977. :techman:

Re: Early Weekend Estimate - Trek #5 - $12.5 million - $209 million

I think 230-240 is more likely, but I would LOVE to pass TMP and get to 250.

Although it was on less screens, TMP did run in some big cinemas for about six months. That's a lot of opportunities for fans (and new fans) to go back, over and over.

Re: Weekend Estimate - Trek #5 - $12.8 M - $209.5 M - $311 M Global

The updated international total is: $101,350,393

Re: Early Weekend Estimate - Trek #5 - $12.5 million - $209 million

dam what a run, still can't believe it god knows what J.J thinks about all the $$$ and prasie for his movie.
Well, I dont presume to know what he thinks but it is certainly a very nice feather in his cap. Not to many directors can say that they saved a franchise that spans 700 episodes and 10 movies from oblivion

Brings to mind that strange clip from the MTV movie awards. :D
