Final Numbers (really!) - Trek #5 - $12.6 M, $209.3 M and $310.7 M

Re: Early Weekend Estimate - Trek #5 - $12.5 million - $209 million

I'm looking forward to seeing how Trek does not week. Even with two new openers, I think it might be able to stay in the #5 spot, or even move up to #4...this is assuming T4 collapses further and DMTH drops like a normal horror film drops.

Re: Early Weekend Estimate - Trek #5 - $12.5 million - $209 million

DMTH will likely not drop much. It has word of mouth as good as Trek and is the only Horror movie out right now.

Re: Early Weekend Estimate - Trek #5 - $12.5 million - $209 million

That would be awesome... If T4 experiences the same percentage drop, it'll be close...

And maybe T4 fans will go see Trek...

Yeah but it is a different genre with limited appeal; unfortunately, the audience today wants brainless, extreme, gratuitous torture scenes, hold the smarts... (apparently, we'll see).

Horror movies still tend to drop by at least 50%. It'll be interesting to see if WOM works on it, because the marketing campaign that should have worked, didn't. Even with the great reviews and Sam Raimi, the film perfomed well below the other horror films this year.

Re: Early Weekend Estimate - Trek #5 - $12.5 million - $209 million

Yes, I was just noticing DMTH didn't do great.

Re: Early Weekend Estimate - Trek #5 - $12.8 M - $209.5 M - $300 M Glo

so has anyone seen DMtH? is it any good? my mom wants to see it next weekend. I'm in two minds...

Re: Early Weekend Estimate - Trek #5 - $12.8 M - $209.5 M - $300 M Glo

It was excellent. A real throw back.

Re: Early Weekend Estimate - Trek #5 - $12.8 M - $209.5 M - $300 M Glo

It looks like Star Trek will end up at around $230-240 million domestic and over $350 million worldwide.

With Up opening to almost $70 million it has an excellent shot at being the highest grossing May release. Family films tend to have strong legs, and Pixar films in particular always have excellent legs. Plus, the word of mouth for Up looks to be especially strong.

I think they made a mistake in releasing Drag Me to Hell in the summer. It probably would have made more money as a January/February release, as a spring release, or perhaps as an October release. That's when horror films usually score really big openings. In the summer there's too much competition from the big blockbusters for a horror film to break through.

Re: Early Weekend Estimate - Trek #5 - $12.8 M - $209.5 M - $300 M Glo

Worldwide is now at $311 million. Foreign box office is now at $101.5 million, with $8 million this weekend (including 2.2M from Japan opening).

really?! that's good to know, thank you! :)

so, not too gory but scary, right? can I please ask: on a scale of truly scary from 1 thru 10 (1 being the least), what would you give it?

Don't horror films do well around Halloween?

Re: Early Weekend Estimate - Trek #5 - $12.8 M - $209.5 M - $300 M Glo

yep, they really should have released this later on.

Yup. It's an okay number, but it looks like Japan is not going to be the big money-maker some were hoping.

There are already five horror movies + one horror comedy coming out in October.

8 mill weekend overall, at 101, probably could get as high as 120 foreign...

Foregin legs seem to go on a long time $130ish is the most likely end target.

I can't really rate it like that as I don't find any movies scary really, but I will say I saw more people jumping and screaming during the movie than most horror movies have. Still its PG-13 so keep that in mind. If you like horror, go see it.
