Hopefully these numbers are right and we're back ahead of A&D. Imagine if we pushed ahead of T4?

That'd be awesome, but unfortunately, very unlikely.

To be fair, I think we all had depressed expectations due to the poor performance of Nemesis.

I know I certainly did. Six months ago, I was still scratching my head over how they'd be willing to spend $150 million (4x the box office of Nemesis). I didn't think that any Trek movie could make that back.

I'm happy to have been wrong.

16 to 13? Sounds like it could at least tighten up more... :)

Where are these figures from? Crossing fingers that they hold true.

I felt the same way! I was afraid if this one failed, it'd be the end of Trek for a loooooooong time. I think we were all caught by surprise how good the movie was, how well-cast it was, that the studio BELIEVED in the movie.

    We are all very pleased.

Steve Mason. He used to run a reputable website, but retired that and send out stuff over Twitter now since he figured people just wanted numbers and not his analysis. Keep in mind these are early estimates, so the final numbers could be different.

At this rate, it's actually going to make less than T3.

I too am surprised T4 is doing so bad. I thought that franchise had better momentum.

Maybe they need to get JJ to direct T5?

The movie would end pretty quickly. Everyone knows that the Terminator's weakness is lens flares. ;)

For what its worth, I went to see it (3rd time) last night and the theatre (about 200 seats) was probably half full.

For a fourth weekend, I think that is a pretty decent turnout. Good reaction from the audience too. Big laughs at all the scotty bits.

    ^^^^^
Yeah, I went to a midnight showing of the last IMAX screening in my region last weekend, and it was packed. Very encouraging. :bolian: I'm gonna see if I can convince my sister to see it with me sometime in the near future, even though she'll probably say no (she's always gently mocked my love of Trek, despite having occasionally watched some TNG with me when we were kids -- although I'm sure she'd deny it ;)).

Wow, the news keeps getting worse for T4, huh? Maybe that'll convince them to make a better film next time (if that franchise gets a next time -- it probably will, but with numbers like these, the studio might be having second thoughts). Drag Me to Hell looks like it'll beat it... I wonder if analysts would've predicted that a few weeks ago? On that topic, anyone know roughly how DMTH was expected to do at the box office? It certainly doesn't seem like a blockbuster film that anyone had sky-high expectations for, so I'd imagine that it's more or less on target.

    Re: Early Friday Estimates - Trek #5 - $3.75 million - Passes $200 Mil

Luckily for WB, they only had to spend $50 million on T4. Sony chipped in $75 million, and the rest came from somewhere else. So, I guess more films are possible, assuming they can work out something like that again.

As for DMTH, I think the expectations were in the low to mid $20 million range. It's low theatre count (2500) seems to be working against it since there have been reports of lots of shows being sold out. It should be doing better considering its PG-13 and there hasnt been a horror film in a couple months. We'll see how the actuals do.

Looks like 250m (domestic) is definitely within reach with each passing day. Interesting how all the investors are keeping a close eye on this gem, especially for the coming sequel with expectations high above the roof. Star Trek is gold.

I'm still not banking on that yet. It'll likely lose at least 30-35% of its theatres next weekend, so this might be it's last weekend with decent returns. But it's not out of the question.

I wasn't expecting Trek to hold THIS well after four weeks.

    It's really something special.
