I saw this on MSNBC today too so I think it's true (I don't really trust IMDB)

IMDB:
John Lithgow is set to drop his nice-guy image to play a killer in the new season of TV drama Dexter.

The actor will play serial killer Walter Simmons, who is dubbed the 'Trinity Killer' because he always kills in threes, according to EW.com.

Lithgow's character moves to Miami, Florida - where Dexter is set - after avoiding capture for three decades.

I haven't seen season three yet, but isn't Miami starting to find itself overpopulated with serial killers?

Still, I have a lot of faith in this series (And John Lithgow is certainly a fine actor, both in comedy and drama) so I look forward to this.

Cliffhanger's Eric Quelan with such awesomely bad lines "you kill one person, you're a murder, kill a million and you're a conquerer" and "your friend just had the most expensive funeral in history"

Doctor Emilio Lizardo in BUCKAROO BANZAI.

That dick in FOOTLOOSE.

Ricochet (never saw it)

Raising Cain (never saw it)

You know I kinda like that one.

But the context of the movie, it was just asinine, because he wasn't a conqueror, just a thief who kills people. Hey,

The best exchange in the movie

Lithgow: "I've got to admit, Walker. You're a real piece of work."

Stallone: "I've got to admit you're a real piece of shit."

So.... I assume Season 4 will revolve around Dexter getting this guy, or will they buddy-up for awhile?

Yeah on paper it sounds good, but the context of the movie it was asinine. He was just a ruthless thief, so the line come across like "I'm a HANS GRUBER WANNABE." (Remember Gruber's "benefits of a classical education"?) Also, it's like saying..."I'm a murderer, cuz I only killed a couple of people."

some other winners...

Qualen: I must say, you're a real piece of work.
Gabe (Stallone): I must say, you're a real piece of shit.

Qualen: "You want to kill me, don't you, Tucker? Well, get a number and get in line."

I'm not sure. ComingSoon has a bit more on it:

Lithgow will play Walter Simmons, an unassuming, mild-mannered suburbanite who has been living a dual life as one of America's most prolific and deadliest serial killers. Dubbed the "Trinity Killer" because of his proclivity to kill in three's, he relocates to Miami after being tracked by F.B.I. Special Agent Frank Lundy (Keith Carradine). Brought on to assist in the investigation of Miami's latest serial killer, Dexter Morgan (Michael C. Hall) becomes fascinated with "Trinity's" unique killing methods and his ability to evade capture for almost three decades.

He's contracted for 12 episodes.

Lithgow is good news.

Carradine is GREAT news. I didn't even know he was coming back. Psyched! :techman:

Lithgow played the killer in the bicentenary-based movie Blow Up. One of the very few acceptable performances by Travolta, I might add.

John Lithgow? Wow, Dexter keeps getting better and better. Its casting is so top notch and its writing is just about perfect. What was the movie he did with Denzel Washington way back when where Lithgow played this prisoner....a guard was chiding him for taking too long to leave his cell when Lithgow's character was primping at a mirror. The guard asked if he was gonna floss his teeth and Lithgow's character answered, "Yes. With your wife's pubic hair." Yowza. Yes, Lithgow can do villainous.
