nuBSG fanfic "Battlestar Urantia"

Depending on where that raptor came from, the only nav data they will garner is Galactica's course from the colonies to Kobol...unless it came from elsewhere?

Well, the Raptor IS from Galactica... it's the one that crashed on the surface with Baltar and the gang. And, yes, you are right in assuming that little data will be gathered from it.

But what they do get, will be enough. There's more than one kind of information they can get from one fallen Raptor. :)

BATTLESTAR URANTIA - BSG-53

The Battlestar held position over Kobol, along with a few of the fleet's larger ships, as the two massive warships from Omiron sailed behind the Urantia, looming over her like two giants.

EMILON LANDING PARTY #2 - KOBOL

Colonel Hindri walked up to where Admiral Standish was standing, Eliza beside him, as both people watched a team of techs from Urantia pull the wrecked hulk of the Raptor free from the built-up soil and plant growth, with the help of a winch-equipped Landram.

With the squeal of brakes coming to a stop, the mighty Landram halted, and the Raptor was now in the clear. After a second, a handful of techs walked over to the Raptor, and brushed away whatever debris was left, as Standish, Hindri, and Eliza walked over to the craft.

"Definitely from Galactica." Hindri stated, seeing the markings on the hull.

"Hmmm." Standish uttered, running his hands over the scarred hull of the craft, taking in the sight of it. Seconds later, a crewman let out a groan, as a loud clunking sound could be heard, before the crewman appeared, on the other side of the Raptor, facing Standish, and holding up a long orange metal box, smiling.

"Here she is!" the man began. "The flight data recorder." he added, reaching over the distance, to hand the box over to Standish, who reached ahead, and took the box, looking it over, before handing it to Hindri.

"Looks pretty much intact, save for a few scorches." Standish began. "Have the next team take that back to the ship... see what they can get out of it." he added, as Hindri nodded, walking away, and heading for the Colonial Shuttle that was landed nearby.

"What do you think this means?" Eliza asked, looking to Tyler. "How did this thing get here?"

"I don't know..." Standish began, looking at the Raptor. "Considering that we discovered evidence that the Galactica had been at a world dubbed New Caprica, and then, we find this Raptor, here... on Kobol... I don't know what to make of it. Is it even possible... that somehow, the Galactica ended up doing just what we did... ended up jumping away from the Colonies, only to end up slowly making its way back here, same way we did?" he asked, looking to her.

The Battlestar kept orbit over Kobol, as Viper CAPs flew alongside the great ship.

Urantia's Deck Crew Chief stood beside Admiral Standish, Colonel Hindri, and Commander McAllister, as the men looked over an array of artifacts that were laid upon the command table... paper documents, and small books, that had been recovered from the Raptor on Kobol.

"We were able to download the navigational charts from the on-board computer." the Chief began. "That alone, was not that interesting. What got our attention, was the transport log... the computer log, of everyone who was ever either a pilot, or passenger, on this particular Raptor." he added.

"Oh?" Standish asked, picking up one of the burgundy-colored books, and looking it over.

"Aye, Sir... you see, there is a log entry for one passenger, in particular... a 'Laura Roslin'... President Laura Roslin." the Chief added, looking to Standish, for his reaction.

Standish paused what he was doing, and his eyelids lifted up, as he looked forward.

"What?" he asked.

"Aye, Sir... President Laura Roslin." the Chief repeated.

"Well, we know that the Colonies were a ghost town, when we arrived... it's a foregone conclusion, that almost everyone on the planets was killed... including President Adar, and the members of his administration. It's possible, that maybe some Cabinet members, like Roslin, somehow made it out, in time." McAllister offered.

"The Secretary of Education." Standish began, looking to McAllister. "You're telling me, that the crew of the Galactica is taking orders from a schoolteacher?" he asked.

EMILON LANDING PARTY #2 - KOBOL

A pair of Colonial Shuttles flew past the campsite, low in the sky, heading for a nearby mountain ridge, as Colonel Hindri walked back down the embankment, to hand Admiral Standish a clutch of papers, salvaged from the aft compartment of the Galactica Raptor.

"Here, Sir... the last of what we could salvage." Hindri stated, as Standish took the papers, leafing through them. "We did find one final interesting tidbit, from the Raptor's flight data." he added, as Standish looked to him. "One of the Raptor's flight data logs makes mention of a "Earth recon jump"... it might explain how it ended up here." he offered.

"How so?" Standish asked, handing the singed papers back to Hindri.

"Well, Sir... if the Galactica was somehow trying to locate Earth, or at least, the course to Earth... they could have made their way here, to find an answer. Remember, Sir, that according the the Book of the Word, the Thirteenth Tribe left Kobol, along with the Twelve. The human colonies we've come across confirm that the flight plan originated here." Hindri stated.

"And by coming here, they might have hoped to find some clue, as to the course the Thirteenth Tribe fleet took." Standish said, understanding, as he looked to the burnt-out Raptor, taking in the sight of it. "Okay... even so... what caused that Raptor to crash and burn?" he asked, looking to Hindri, who returned his look of confused frustration.

EMILON LANDING PARTY #2 - KOBOL

The sun had since set on Kobol, and night now filled the grassy highland region where the second Emilon team had landed, and discovered the Raptor from Galactica.

The cool air felt crisp, and smelled clear, as Admiral Standish and Eliza Winnow sat on a rock together, facing a large central bonfire that had been lit, which was encircled by a ring of pilgrims, and a few Emilonian military officers. Most of the pilgrims were busy merrily dancing with each other, around the bonfire, as bagpipes and fiddles played for them, while others just sat by the fire, drinking spiced cider, and talking.

"Mmm... this is nice." Tyler said, as Eliza held onto his left arm, pulling herslef close to him, leaning against him. "I can't remember the last time I looked up at the night sky, from a planet, and saw the stars like this." he added.

"I love this fresh air." Eliza replied. "So clean and sweet... after breathing all that same stale air on the ship for all these years, I don't know if I'll be able to get back on board." she offered, smiling, as she snuggled into him.

One of the pilgrim men walked over to the couple, and offered them both cups of spiced cider, which Tyler took, handing one to Eliza.

"Mmm... so warm." she said, looking to Tyler, smiling.

"Aye, that it is." Tyler said, setting the cup down, and getting up, to face Eliza, pulling his uniform top taught, and extending his hand out to her. "What say you... want to give it a go?" he asked, indicating towards the people dancing.

Eliza's eyes grew wide for a moment, her face wearing a look of surprise.

"My, my, Admiral." she began. "And all this time, it was like pullin' teeth, to get you to dance." she offered, still sitting down.

"I can dance... and that was before... and as you'll remember, you're the only woman I danced with." Standish returned.

"Aye, that's the truth of it." she replied, now getting up, and accepting his hand, as he pulled her up close to him, with a lot of strength. She looked at him, her face right up to his, her smile growing. "Seems to me, all you were needin', was a good share of fresh air, to get you in a right mood for some good an' proper dancin', and merrymakin'." she said, looking into his eyes.

"And a good woman." Tyler shot back, looking into her eyes, as well.

The two continued staring into each other's eyes for a few long seconds, before Tyler moved in, and kissed Eliza, in front of the backdrop of the rising flames, from the bonfire. The kiss was long and passionate, but gentle and soft. Finally, the voice of one of the pilgrim men calling out, broke the liplock.

"Hey, you two... you gonna be dancin', or not? Otherwise, take it to the ship." the man called out, causing a few of the other pilgrim men to chuckle at the comments, as Tyler and Eliza looked to the man, as tyler then looked back to Eliza.

"Well, you heard him... we'd better get to the ship." he offered, smiling, forcing back a chuckle.

"Oh, you're so bad." Eliza shot back, playfully slapping her hands on his chest, returning his smile. "First we'll be dancin'... then, we'll see 'bout the other." she added.

"Whatever you say, melady." Standish replied, offering his arm to her, as the couple walked to where the circle of dancers was.

There's that other pesky book of the word prophecy. "Any return to Kobol will carry a price of blood"
I think now's as good a time as any to really look into that. Elosha was killed by a Cylon land mine.
Ah, but which Cylons? The Toasters? Or the Thirteenth Tribe? Plus there was this Jealous God they had to deal with....

Well, I'm pretty sure the mine that killed Elosha was a modern Cylon mine, because the Baseship was already there, and the Cylon teams would have had time to plant it.

However... what happens on Kobol might not necessarily stay on Kobol... the "curse" of Kobol will be dealt with, and while its effects might not be immediate, they will be far-reaching.

The Cylon legacy will also be dealt with, and this arc on Kobol will lead directly into an upcoming arc, with Eliza, and will also lead directly into an exploration of just what happened on Kobol, between the Gods, and the humans, and what caused the great exodus from Kobol.

Like I have said often about this whole story... I have a plan. :)

And before anyone brings it up... NO, Eliza is not a Cylon. I think Standish has had enough emotional ups and downs to last him a lifetime. Plus, to do that would feel and also be pretty cheap, IMO.

Colonel Hindri stood beside Admiral Standish, as he pointed out various items on a slew of paper documents, that was strewn about the command table.

"So, as you can see, this is by no means a definitive collection, or representation," Hindri began. "But from the few articles and computer records were WERE able to collect, and decrypt... Galactica was not alone... we've been able to confirm the mention of at least five other ships, with her." he stated, looking to Tyler.

"She had her own civilian fleet?" Standish asked, returning Hindri's look.

"It looks that way, Sir." he replied. "And, we also learned that there was at least one other high profile person, who made it out of the Colonies, along with President--"

"Schoolteacher." Standish clipped, cutting Hindri off, as Hindri looked to him, continuing.

"--President Roslin." Hindri stated, looking to Tyler with a somewhat playful look. "One of the passenger logs for the Raptor makes mention of a Doctor Gaius Baltar." he added, looking to the Admiral for his reaction.

"Hmmm..." Standish uttered, taking it in. "Well, the guy was considered a frakking genuis on the Colonies... at least the Galactica is in good hands, with someone of his intellect with them." he added, looking up to the DRADIS, before turning to again face his XO. "I'm still going after her. I'm still gonna find Galactica... after all this business is over with." he stated, serious.

"I know, Sir." Hindri replied, looking into Tyler's eyes, and seeing the unwavering intent. "And I'll be right beside you, Sir. We all will." he added, offering a small reassuring smile, which the Admiral returned, as both men resumed examining the documents on the table.

OMIRON LANDING PARTY #6 - KOBOL

The large encampment was fully set up, in the middle of a large grassy valley, that also boasted a few large stone outcroppings, and stone structures that appeared to be ancient monuments of some form.

In the clearing, Grae Azaire led Jareth Benassi along, holding his hand, as she took in the sights, sounds, and smells around her. Jareth, for his part, was not as seemingly impressed as Grae was.

"Jareth, this is where it all began." she stated. "This was once our home." she added, as she turned to see the look on Jareths face. He looked around and saw only a habitable planet, but she saw the home of humanity.

"Sorry... this is just a planet to me." Jareth offered, almost apologetically.

"I guess you could say that." Grae whispered. She wanted to share this with him, but he didn't understand. Taking him by the hand, they walked along a small grass path, towards a lightly wooded area and up towards the mountains.

While in the Raptor on the flight over here, Grae had seen a mountain structure that looked like gates... "The Gates of Hera". Could they have been the same?

Grae wanted to check it out, and she didn't want to go alone. Jareth was as good a companion as anyone. Maybe if she could explain more about the importance of Kobol, then Jareth might understand why this place was so important.

Just standing here on this planet filled her with such awe and wonder that she had never felt before. Grae never felt any loyalty for the Gods her people woshipped, but Kobol was different. It was a world where humans and Gods lived in harmony. That was until Zues cast the tribes out.

EMILON LANDING PARTY #2 - KOBOL

Eliza reached down to pick up a basket of food, to take back to the encampment, from the area where the bonfire had been, the night before. As she stood up, and began to turn to head back, she was greeted by one of the pilgrim men she knew well... an old and close friend of hers...

"Oh, Jebra... I didn't see you there." she stated, stopping short, to avoid running into him.

"Aye, 'tis no matter." he began, as he moved closer to her, grabbing hold of her left arm. "Have you heard the news?" he asked her.

"News? No." Eliza replied.

Jebra looked into her eyes, with his own. His lips seemed to fidget, as if he was searching for the proper words, as the slight cool breeze blew through his long gray beard.

"Our leader... Father Ethem... he wants to set up a permanent settlement here... stay on Kobol for good." he explained.

"Well, what..." Eliza asked, not being able to believe it. "He ought be knowin' he can't be doin' that." she offered.

"Nonetheless," Jebra replied. "He's set to doin' it. He's sayin' that it'll bring us all closer to the Gods, and their path for us." he explained.

"What says he, of the prophecy, then? The curse? Surely, if we're to be remainin' here, there will be a price to pay... and the Book says it'll be a price of blood." Eliza stated.

In response, Jebra simple looked back at Eliza, sympathetic, as he gently released her arm, while she looked back at him, wondering what to make of this latest revelation.
