What happens when all the regenerations are up?

Simple, just before the Time Lords were consumed in the Time War they willed all their future regenerations to the Doctor. Now he can go on forever.
Yeah that's what I was thinking. If the show is still popular BBC isn't going to end it just because he runs out of regenerations.

I was thinking something along these lines, too, but I'd add an extra bit.

Instead of having all of the Time Lords will him their regenerations, a group of them make this decision at the last minute.

After the thirteenth regeneration, the Doctor finds this out, but he has no idea how many Time Lords were involved, or how many regenerations he has left.

That way, there's always some added suspense (dramatically, at least), because the Doctor will never know if his current form is his last one.

Also, fuck Bono.

When I was in high school, I was hanging out at a friend's house, and for whatever reason, we were talking about U2 with his parents. At some point, his mom said, "What's the singer's name again? Bobo?"

Hilarity ensued, and 15+ years later, that friend and I still refer to him as "Bobo."

I had an idea once that before the final Doctor dies he's reunited with Susan, who's only on her second regeneration, having spent her life pretty much peacefully since she left with the Hartnell Doctor. Over the course of the extra special story something does the Final Doctor in. As he's about to burst into flames he tells Susan to take on his name and travel the world in his place. Instead of regeneration a pile of ash is left behind, to go with the Phoenix analogy. Susan decides to honor his last request, and takes on the name of "The Doctor." When the next season rolls around it's bussiness as usual.

What I like about that is that something has been long established by the show itself can still come to pass but we can still have new stories for Doctor Who. I figure by the time the final Doctor comes around the audience would be more acceptive of a female The Doctor; if not they can use some other Timelord. Or his son. Or Great-great-grandson, or something.

how is that business as normal?

There's a semi-enigmatic person calling themselves "The Doctor", who pops up at a certain time/place and gets involved in an adventure/conflict.

but its going to be very clear to everyone that she is not theDoctor, just a fake.

Unless they pull some Ace Rimmer "being me is just a state of mind" crap. ;)
I think that is the plan for "Robin Hood" all that "we are Robin Hood" rubbish, they cheer every few episodes.

well, that's been done before. Robin of Sherwood in the 80s had two Robins. Robin of Locksley and Robert 'Robin' of Bonchurch, i think, who replaced him.

true, but I bet that version didnt have the whole gang or Merry Men, shouting "we are Robin Hood" at the end of nearly every episode, with the whole thing being taken way to far, where King Richard and his man saying the same thing.

Its cringe worthy to say the least

Hasn't that only happened twice in 3 series? Where do you get nearly every episode from?

Not sure, but I can only remember twice. And It did make sense the second time, because they were reaffirming their commitment to fighting against Prince John.

yes and Robin doing that by shouting "We are King Richard" is just fine, but King Richard shouting "We are Robin Hood" is taking it one step to far IMO.

Makes sense though, Richard is fighting for his country abroad, Robin is fighting for his country at home, and they're showing that in spirit they're working together... I'm not saying it's well written, but it makes a certain kind of sense.

I dont disagree with them showing a united front, I just wish it was written in a less cringe worthy way.

King Richard is the King of England, does the Queen go around "im..." all the time? no she doesnt, she is Queen, he is the King, it is his job to be the King, there is highest rank there is, you dont go around claiming to be an outlaw or any other group if you are King, your the King end of.

A quiet show of support between Robin & King Richard, is all that was needed.

anyways we have dragged this thread way off topic.

Pointless argument about a pointless show anyway.

yes ive really got to learn to let people disagree with me, without turning it into a massive argument.
