Friday Estimates - Star Trek #4 - $5.8 million - $168 million

Re: Early Friday Estimates - Star Trek #4 - $6.3 million

Thats not good at all for Terminator, how much did Trek make on its first day? Wasn't it 30m when you factor in the early screenings the day before?

Terminator is nothing without Arnold. And does this mean that Bale can't open a big movie without being Batman?

Hard to say. Terminator is still going to have $75 million or so by Monday, so it's not a total disaster. How much of that was Bale fans is unclear. But in general, he really hasn't opened a movie big besides Batman, although he does tend to do smaller films.

Re: Early Friday Estimates - Star Trek #4 - $6.3 million

So a Domestic total of 200-230m for Star Trek you think?

Re: Early Friday Estimates - Star Trek #4 - $6.3 million

Maybe Terminator=James Cameron and Arnold. T3 didn't do great either. Not too badly, but nowhere near T2 business. But James Cameron has (or had) a brand name with a rep for quality.

Re: Early Friday Estimates - Star Trek #4 - $6.3 million

And is that 60m estimate 4 day (I assume Thursday included) for Terminator really on the dot? I would have thought at least 70m.

It'll be more then that since Star Trek is going to pass 200m on Monday or Tuesday.

I think more like 250-300m domestic.:techman:

Re: Early Friday Estimates - Star Trek #4 - $6.3 million

Fantastic numbers for Trek considering the competition.

BWAHAHAHAHAHAHA Termination Salvation! Smart move Warners... spend $200 million on this bomb! Can't wait until it tanks next weekend...

Yancy
Did T4 really cost this much? It definitely did NOT look it

Re: Early Friday Estimates - Star Trek #4 - $6.3 million

Well, looks like Trek will probably make it to 200 million. :)

I doubt it'll be much higher than that, but 200 million doallars (domestic) would be a resounding success.

I still think this will clear $250 million. It will have somewhere around $192 million by Monday and should clear $200 million by next Friday. Assuming a 35% drop next weekend (a little more than Iron Man's drop on the weekend after Memorial Day) to around $20 million, that puts it at $220 million.

Factor in no real BIG competition after this weekend until Transformers on June 24th (besides Up), and $250 million is in the cards.

If it can keep on pace with Iron Man, it could get to $270 million. I'd be happy with $250 million though.

Thats amazing when you consider we were hoping for just a few million near Batman Begins numbers, but I still think 200-230m is closer to the mark though, can't see it hitting 250m or over.

Terminator's 5-day estimate is $71 million.

But remember, these are estimates based on not all receipts for Friday.

Read my above post. $250 million is really possible.

Re: Early Friday Estimates - Star Trek #4 - $6.3 million

It would be a great sign to beat Batman Begins, at least domestically.

Re: Early Friday Estimates - Star Trek #4 - $6.3 million

I think a lot of people agreed that getting near Batman Begins would be good, but getting 10-20 million over it would be great.

Re: Early Friday Estimates - Star Trek #4 - $6.3 million

I keep hearing about this McG fellow. Who is he? MacGyver?

On-topic though, I hope Star Trek catapults to #3 on Sat/Sun ahead of A&D again.

Re: Early Friday Estimates - Star Trek #4 - $6.3 million

He made Charlie's Angels.

Why they gave him a 200m budget franchise like Terminator, I will never know. Or why they even gave it a 200m budget considering the last film.

You don't think Will Farrell's Land of the Lost is big competition?

These figures are damned good for the competition that Trek is facing... and like you say, bode well for the following couple of weeks of relatively no competition... but the slow fade is beginning.

Re: Early Friday Estimates - Star Trek #4 - $6.3 million

Unless Up performs worse than is typical of Pixar movies, it looks like *neither* Wolverine nor Terminator will end up as one of the top 2 movies released this month. That's definitely not what most people would have expected a few months ago.

I can't get a good read on Land of the Lost. It could be big, or it will likely be just another small to moderate hit for Will Farrell, who hasn't had a BIG movie in 3 years.
