Star Trek - $2.98 M Thurday - $161 M domestic (Final Numbers)

Re: Star Trek - $3 M Thurday - $161 M domestic

updated the first post with more detailed estimates

Re: Star Trek - $3 M Thurday - $161 M domestic

I hope that we see a bit of increase for Trek when the actuals come out later on today.

Re: Star Trek - $3 M Thurday - $161 M domestic

So, is $60 million A&D's domestic cume?

Re: Star Trek - $3 M Thurday - $161 M domestic

Well, even I went to see DaVinci Code. I couldn't make out what all the fuss was about, even after reading the book; and I'm still in the dark -- like the movie was.

Re: Star Trek - $3 M Thurday - $161 M domestic

Trek had a relatively larger drop than Iron Man for a third thursday, but Iron Man didn't have to compete with a major opening on its third thursday. This should therefore be no surprise. Iron Man's main competition that week, Narnia, didn't open till Friday.

I liked DaVinci Code but IMO it was a one trick pony. Once you see the big reveal at the end you never need to see the damn thing again. I have to admit that I didn't have even the faintest desire to see A&D. Still don't. The subject matter sounds pretty silly. Blowing up the pope with antimatter? Eh.

Re: Star Trek - $3 M Thurday - $161 M domestic

I personally hope NATM II underperforms. I think the whole concept is a one-movie gimmick that's being milked for more.

Re: Star Trek - $3 M Thurday - $161 M domestic

Families with kiddies will go see it. Were my son 9 or 10 again, he'd probably want to go...

Re: Star Trek - $3 M Thurday - $161 M domestic

You're probably right. NatM was okay. I have no interest in the sequel but many other parents might. Personally I think the next movie I'll take the kids to is Up. I have the feeling that movie is going to kick so much ass in so many ways.

As the ever-diligent MvRojo has already updated in the initial post.

Not too shabby. Makes for close to a 14 million workweek. Now for the weekend.

Re: Star Trek - $3 M Thurday - $161 M domestic

Already ahead of Angels & Demons? Nice legs.

Re: Star Trek - $3 M Thurday - $161 M domestic

Great hold for Trek, and very pathetic numbers for TS (the number included about $3 million from Wednesday midnight screenings). As I suspected Terminator was waaaaay overestimated by a number of analysts.

Trek has a very good shot at holding well against TS... Hell, I'm more worried about how it holds up against Night At the Museum II (i.e., family audience).

Yancy
