Star Trek - $2.98 M Thurday - $161 M domestic (Final Numbers)

Re: Star Trek - $3 M Thurday - $161 M domestic

Great hold for Trek, and very pathetic numbers for TS (the number included about $3 million from Wednesday midnight screenings). As I suspected Terminator was waaaaay overestimated by a number of analysts.

Trek has a very good shot at holding well against TS... Hell, I'm more worried about how it holds up against Night At the Museum II (i.e., family audience).

Yancy

The advantage Trek has over NatM II is that while the latter is packaged as a "family movie", it may be a little too cute for families with older children (or, you know, younger dads who have the tastes of older children.) A certain percentage of those will prefer Trek.

I agree with that... the teen set will not sit still for this movie. And I think there will be spillover from T4 and A&D as well...

I'm fairly optimistic not just about this weekend, but even next. But then when Land of the Lost hits the screen, watch out... my son thinks Will Farrell is a god...

Funny, yes, god? No.

The original NatM was a terrible movie, I am glad I didn't pay to see it in theaters. And I love comedies and I like Ben Stiller. Based on the trailer the second movie looks just as bad. But the original made a ton of money, and this one will probably do great too.

I like Will Ferrell, but LOTL looks pretty bad.

Part of me thinks this movie is an indirect result of his role eight years ago in JAY & SILENT BOB STRIKE BACK where he played federal wildlife marshal "Willenholly.":p And he or someone else thought that he might actually do well in a big-budget LOTL movie.

Updated with final numbers:

Estimate was only $5k off.

Re: Star Trek - $3 M Thurday - $161 M domestic

Looks like my $215 million domestic box office call is going to be reached and surpassed!

Re: Star Trek - $3 M Thurday - $161 M domestic

All right, we'll take it... Now that the initial excitement of the starting gun and first few miles have worn off, let's see if Star Trek is primed for a marathon...

Terminator's reviews are pretty bad. I was going to see it tonight but now am going to hold off until Monday--and after reading some of those reviews.

I wouldn't mind seeing Star Trek again, though. ;) It's awesome to see the movie doing so well. :D

Yeah, T4 got some initial glowing reviews but most of the new ones I've seen in the last forty-eight hours or so suck. I still think it'll be better than T3 ended up being, but nowhere near as badass as TREK.

I hate to say this but T3 was the better movie. by far. T4 was pretty damn bad *shudder* I cant believe I spent 30 bucks to see that turd

I'm thinking we can assume no repeat business... :p

Word ;) You know a movie is bad when the only good thing you can say about the movie is "at least the helicopter crash looked cool"

I'll give T4 a shot. Worst case scenario? It'll suck and I won't go back. But I told myself I'd see the new TERMINATOR in the theater and I want to stick to the plans I made with a friend.
