Is the Adversary a way of keeping the cast in line.

All this talk of the Adversary is making me wish there was a Fables series. But I digress.:p

This is purely a "behind the camera" speculation. I know that the introduction of the Adversary is a nice twist to the show, but one wonders that, with the real death of Locke and the Adversary assuming his form, the TPTB may use this as a way to keep the cast in line if someone wants a higher paycheck or gets caught with a DUI?

Cast member: My agent thinks I'm worth more than what I'm getting and I agree.

Producers: I see. Well tell your agent that your character is now the Adversary and you've been swallowed up by a Dharma shark, okay?

Cast member: Uh, forget what I said before. Have a nice day.

Producers: Oh, and drink responsibly, potential Adversary.

Perhaps its just Hollywood paranoia, but it wouldn't be out of the realm of possibility.

I don't know. I more or less get the impression this is the story they wanted to tell all along. It doesn't strike me as something they just made up now.

If we were halfway through the show's run, I could see this being an issue. As it stands, we're going in to the last season - the contracts have long since been signed, I just can't see anyone playing this game. Besides, the producers probably have every character's path more or less laid out by now.

I must be missing something. Terry O'Quinn is still the actor playing not Locke even if real Locke is dead.

Yeah, but in that case, the producers can easily have Esau/not-Locke have a reason to become someone else, and eliminitae the need for Terry O'Quinn...but i hope that doesn't happen.

but i agree with others...at this point, even if there's an issue with a cast member, unless it's super outrageous...it'd be good to just let the sotry play out.

Then Abrams & others can choose not to cast people if they wish (or, for those they like, find a role in the next Trek movie)

I'm sure some of the actors, like Michael Emerson, Naveen Andrews, Terry O'Quinn, Jorge Garcia and Josh Holloway, realize that they are pretty much unkillable because of talent, fan-favoriteness, or both. Even if their character is technically killed, they will still have a job.
