Re: New series vs. Star Trek XII better for ENT fans
CBS might want to cash in on the success of the movie. However, as it stands now, the movie sequel will arrive first.
Viacom owns a number of properties including
Paramount Pictures.
Leslie Moonves, may head CBS television network but if Paramount produced a new TV series for 2011 Autumn it could air on these other Viacom owned properties: TV Land, MTV, Spike TV

Noticing its less-than-robust 6.2 million viewers average last year, NBC forged an "unusual" cost-sharing deal with satellite service DirecTV, in hopes of boosting ratings for the series. The effort proved unsuccessful however, as the ratings slipped further to 4.02 million. Still, the two companies recently inked two more seasons of the time-share deal.

Both of these are alternative distribution.
A Blu-ray of a new series full season is of course under CBS Home Video/Paramount Home Entertainment but there are options other than the top 5 broadcast networks.
SyFy exclusive broadcast rights doesn't seem like it would happen. These days it's about 'Nielsen ratings +3' and that includes what Hulu, Apple iTunes can do the same week as the episode release.
This is also an option:
as original programming but an alternate distributor

So for the title of this thread being better for ENT fans. a new series would be 2011 at the earliest. and possibly STXII would also be that year so for now the only new canon is STXI.
Yeah I threw it out there Star Trek on MTV. Highly doubtful the editing style would change and it's a long shot that it would end up on MusicTV the network unless they do pop music underneath ala 'the O.C.' [= that would not happen] but then again MTV is cable tv and needs ratings.
It could also end up on the new Epix TV channel
Epix is a premium television movie channel that is scheduled to launch in late 2009. The planned channel will be operated by Studio 3 Partners through a joint venture between Viacom, MGM and Lionsgate.
Epix will also offer a companion video on demand service.

Epix already will have 1 original series for 2010, a drama.
Perhaps Trek will end up here? HD Trek on-demand...?
