Star Trek #1 - $3.12 M Wednesday - $159 M domestic - $233 M worldwide

Re: Star Trek #1 - $3.12 M Wednesday - $159 M domestic - $233 M worldw

I am a Terminator fan, but yet the trailers really put me off - too dark by far. I don't see it doing as well as Star Trek or Wolverine. And since T4 is competing for a different slice of the market, I think Trek is going to continue with it's steady takings. And a lot of the public really don't care for Christian Bale as much as they used to, since the papers splashed his battering of his own mother and sister.

25 million predicted for Trek over the 4-day weekend...

I think that 25m 4-day prediction is too low a grab for uber Trek at this point.

Trek for this weekend could easily perform identical to Prince Caspian from May 08 memorial weekend, which was roughly $29m 4-day. I have a feeling Trek's word of mouth will cut through some of A&D and NATMII audiences, bringing in some of their older and family crowds to boost Trek's Saturday and Sunday numbers, so it might even reach 32m over 4-day.

My prediction;

Fri - 7.1
Sat - 9.3
Sun - 8.2
Mon - 7.4

4-day 32m

And it will do 2m+ per weekday next week. :)

Wonder if there will be a substantial drop today and tonight as T4 sucks all viewers into the theater...

And tomorrow when NatM2 opens....

Crossing fingers!

I don't know. I just got back from a 12:30 pm showing of T4 and it was pretty packed, more than when I watched Wolverine on opening day.

Well that's what I meant by T4 sucking viewers into the theater... I guess Bale might be a pretty big draw...

What's your track record so far...? :p

I kid, of course I'm hoping those will be close to the numbers. And yeah, that other prediction has been notoriously low for the last two weeks, so slap on another 5-10 million to the 25.

I'm watching it later today. :klingon: I know I'm late and that's not cool. I was a little trapped in deep space :cardie:

After reading Harry Knowles review of T4 I've lost nearly all my enthusiasm towards the movie. I might see it next weekend but this weekend is reserved for Trek.

114 reviews, 77 rotten. Even lower than Wolverine. While that won't stop the initial crush, it might cut the legs out from under the movie.

Even NatM2 is at 41%...

FYI, Star Trek is adding 193 theatres this weekend, to 4053.

Wow. Given the steady erosion in earnings, why? I suppose they are banking on those seats being filled...

All the movies in last week's Top 10 (with the exception of Trek and A&D) lost a combined 7425 or so theatres, so those got redistributed. Trek just reaped some of the benefit.

Oh, I see... interesting. Should bode well for the weekend numbers...

And IMAX is doing midnight showings too, right?

it is starting to go into some of the secondary markets i suspect.
a lot of small towns still only have one or two screens.
so sometimes some films have to wait before they start in them.

hmm it would be cool seeing it on a drive in.

That is interesting. Maybe our local IMAX will get it soon then... :)

30 Mil or so for the 4 Day sounds about right. We should be at about 195 By Tuesday AM.

Such good news! At what point can Paramount say they've made a healthy profit on this movie?

We don't know until we get a solid number for Budget and Advertising.

You never will. Those numbers aren't published, and when you see them they're always guesses or estimates.

The studio is going to make great money on this, they know that for certain, and probably they already have. Let's see, they've taken in 24 million dollars just for one set of television rights which are of course not counted as part of the "box office take" - how much do you suppose all the merchandisers from cereal companies to toy manufacturers to bubble-gum card companies to fast-food chains and so on and so on have paid in total so far for licenses based this movie? All that revenue flows back to Viacom.

Wow - great to see it still doing so well. I haven't gone back and seen it a second time yet, but I really want to once I get over being sick.

And great news about it beating A&D. That is excellent!!!

Saw it for the 3rd time in IMAX tonight. If what I saw was any indication, the numbers will hopefully be great for the week. My IMAX theater was completely full, with a line of people already waiting to get in an hour before show time! When we exited, another line was already waiting! It made the fanboy in me happy to see such enthusiasm for the film. :techman:

I have a bad feeling though that with all the competition, it's going to get crushed this weekend.
