If Terminator Salvation is a box office flop, would they (TPTB) wait a cupple of years and try to REMAKE the entire franchise from the ground up like they are with Robocop?

I wouldn't be surprised if they did. Though, I would be surprised if TS failed at the box office.

I am more interested in seeing where they go from here. A remake might have been interesting after T3 (emphasis on "might have") but now with the direction of the franchise moving forward, I think a remake would be pretty useless and perfunctory if you ask me at this stage of the game.

TS Will open big but Wom could hurt this and lets not forget T-3 and SCC were not embraced by fans.

KYLE REESE: Zac Efron
SARAH CONNOR: Miley Cyrus
THE TERMINATOR: Stone Cold Steve Austin

C'mon! It has Christain Bale, and an army of mahines against him! This, and what looks like a respectful telling of Terminator Lore will make this as stron of an opening as Star Trek.

Yes, since seemingly everything is being remade from an older film these days, even movies no one remembers...

Though, I would be surprised if TS failed at the box office.
Absolutely. Despite the current 25% fresh rating at RT, the name cachet should carry the box-office.

My predictions:

1: TS
2/3: NatM/Angels and Demons
4: AbramsTrek
5: ?

I think the movie will do okay at the box office, but on the off-chance it fails, that would probably kill the franchise for a good long time.

It's only a matter of time before a movie and its remake both come out the exact same year.

What would the story of a fourth one be anyway? I'd think they'd have to follow it with a re-make if they do a sequel, because what story is there left to tell? I thought Terminator 3 ended with the war starting, and this movie is the actual war, so where else could they go from there? The first movie is the machines trying to win the war (which is in progress) by sending a machine back in time to stop the human leader's birth, so isn't this movie just leading directly into the first one?

As of right now, it seems like the goal for Salvation is to be a new three part Terminator series (hence why its Terminator Salvation instead of Terminator 4). Where they go with it is anyone's guess

Well, I was speaking to my friend about this yesterday and, although I very much doubt they'll attempt to remake the original film,we both agree that this new take on the Terminator franchise is taking itself too seriously. The first two films, with the whole thumbs up at the end, and the "hasta la vista baby" stuff in it. The second film especially, had a serious plot and a serious way of thinking, but there was a heart to the films, in this one it's just Bale putting on his grumpy face and shooting things.
