What's keeping me out of the theatre....

My question was to Warped9: Has he seen the film?

Because you were obviously baiting him into another pointless argument and attempting to reduce his credibility despite the fact the he has indeed already seen the movie and said so...

Whaaaaat? Starship Troopers was one of the worst movies of any kind of the 90s, the new ST movie was so far superior in every way its almost not even even worth mentioning...almost.

I didn't say Starship Troopers was good. In fact, it's pretty awful. I expected Nu Trek to be on that level.

I was wrong. It was worse.

NEOPEIUS!!!!!

Whatever...I'm not one to rely on critic opinion for myself, but the ratings for those movies on RT are revealing...

Tell you what, Elton...

If, in 40 years time, people think "James T Kirk" and the image of Chris Pine comes to mind, then I'll give it to anyone that this movie really was better than TOS.

Until then, please simply accept that I don't repsect a single person who comes here to rub shit into people's faces that this movie is almost a commercial 'break-even' out of spite.

You see, unlike many people, I don't need to have my opinions either dictated by or placated to the 'masses' to reaffirm myself. :)
What the fuck are you drooling on about?

He has but he's under orders not to discuss how.

Oh, and Starship Troopers is a disturbing piece of gonzo satire. I like it, though not nearly as much as RoboCop.

The main problems with some of the people's critiques on this thread are that they are usually based on the fact that ST is different from TOS and therefore "wrong" rather than on actual moviemaking, for which the movie has had nothing but raves. Its easy to dismiss a lot of critiques.

RAMA

Because you were obviously baiting him...
Oh fuck off. The thread is 28 pages long, I didn't read all of it before replying with one fucking question enquiring if he had seen the film or not.

Considering the thread title, it was a reasonable question, posed to him, not you.

How is that an unfair critique? "I wanted it to be closer to something I've loved for decades" is somehow unfair?

Seriously, why are you on this thread again?

How dare people want something called Star Trek to be like Star Trek?

Nutballs, ya ask me...

I read Countdown while sitting in a Barnes & Noble then put it right back where I found it. Same thing only legal. Go figure.

Not quite. If you had taken the comic, photocopied it in the store, and took home the photocopy, THEN it would be the same thing... and illegal.

I got to admit, why Warped9 simply just did not watch the movie (which he knew he wasn't going to enjoy) escapes me. Isn't it enough to say "it didn't look good to me, sorry, now shut up and let me watch "Alternative Factor" in peace?"

Luckily, jobs and opportinities are plentiful in today's booming economy.

Next time I know someone who gets shitcanned for a stupid reason, I'll try that on him to make him feel better.

Yeah, really. Let's just gloss over the hugely wrong, disrespectful, shortsighted and idiotic management environment that led to firing him. For attempting to get the scale of the new ship right!? No, we can't have that. Must fire.
That story really puts the fly in my soup.

Today I watched a lady I've worked with for years led out of the building in mid-shift by the new mgmt person (executive hatchetman actually), supposedly because she refused an order. When I asked the guy who is in theory the store manager if what I just saw was what I thought it was, this guy (a VietNam vet who has seen some SERIOUS shit, both in the air and on the ground) just retracted his cahones and said that if people can't be agreeable, they're gone.
That's impressive, isn't it. The only silver lining is, bad management always gets it in the end. It seems to have a talent for singling out the few staff that are holding the ship together, and taking issue with them.
Having seen STXI twice now, I can't for the life of me imagine how the story could be true. It is chock full of (mostly visual) references to other films and series. It doesn't make the least bit of sense that this guy would be fired for lining up a few Enterprise models along with the new ship.
Logic tells me that he was fired for personal reasons, and insubordination over a ship model was just the reason given. Whoever fired him personally did not like the guy, and needed an excuse. Wouldn't be the first time, won't be the last.

For the record, I rank this new movie third or fourth, depending on how generous I'm feeling toward First Contact at the given moment. As far as I'm concerned, TMP ad TWoK remain the only Trek movies that have a claim at truly being "good."

Actually, I agree with that.

TREK09, TUC, and FC are rollicking/fun space adventures... but I agree with you that they are nearly as good as the best of TOS or the first two films.

Of course, I think that Space Adventure! is a perfectly acceptable niche for Star Trek, with or without it's other elements and influences. Others may disagree.

In Japan, there are big signs in every bookstore saying (in Japanese) "Please do not stand and read!"

Of course, the aisles are crammed with people standing and reading. :)

I like this thread. It's exciting!

Those involved in the pissing match, knock it off.

I don't care if you love the movie, hate it or are indifferent. Be polite and remember it's just a movie, not real. Why are you getting so angry over something fictional?

Perhaps.
But perhaps he was a bit too... set in his ways when it comes to designing Trek.

If you viewed a crappy pirated version on a little screen you really can't give a proper opinion of the movie, YOU MUST see it on the big screen ONLY THEN will your opinion have any merit.
