I knew it!

A film? Seems like a daft time to do a film with Tennant/ RTD on their way out and Moffat/ Smith on the way in?

Seems like the perfect time to me. It's not like it's going to stop people watching the TV series. And Tennant did hint recently that his next project after he finished the series would see him working with RTD again.

Yeah but as it is Smith will have to live in the shadow of Tennant into he establishes himself, doing that is bad enough without Tennant actually still being the Doctor on the big screen. If they were gonna do a Tennant film why the hell didn't they do it this year while we had the gap?

Oh dear Lord, I'm now terrified by the concept of how epic a story (and how many kitchen sinks and daleks) RTD can afford with a film budget...

I have to agree it does seem like a strange time to be making a DR who movie, unless its a DR who TV movie like the 1996 one, could this be a big production TV movie of the fabled time war, will Tennants Dr be crossing his own timeline to change it, seeing as every bad bugger involved in it seems to have escaped except the poor old Timelords......Who knows.

I wonder Who(oh the puns this topic could have), is funding it, is this another joint BBC/US production.

And as much as i hate to bring in guff from places like The Sun newspaper, a quick google revealed they had as similar story way back in 2008....
Tennant for Dr Who Movie role

It says BBC Films/BBC Worldwide.

If they are making a film it's going to be a stand-alone story that will have to work for people who've never seen a single episode of the series before. And no doubt they'll get some American actress in to play the Companion. Anne Hathaway anyone?

I have to agree that the timing is off. Unless it's a multi-Doctor story and Smith will be involved.

And I don't want a Rose/Doc 10.5 movie.

As for the "epic/kitchen sink" fear with RTD having a big budget... I'm more than just a little afraid there.

Of course on the upsite the scale of the project might entail RTD not having the freedom he had on the show, so he might be reigned in and we might get a damn fine film...just a shame we couildn't have that rather than the specials.

And now the page has been updated to remove the film from his CV.

Looks like someone at his Agency is due to get a smacked wrist. :)

That's quite a good point and certainly what I'd hope for. However someone on the BBC lot might consider him the golden boy and let him run wild. Fear always gets the best of me when it's RTD.

I wouldn't want to be that someone. Heads have rolled for less.

I suspect some junior employee got tasked with updating Client's CVs and didn't realise what a scoop including this information in his publically available version would be.

With Tennant's last day on the TV series being this Friday they might have been planning to announce it pretty soon anyway.

This has been rumoured for quite a while now, it just sounds like a really bad idea. I'm sure it'll make a few pennies, but it's going to be hell for Smith to break through the love for Tennant as it is.

By the time any film is released his first series will already have been shown and if he hasn't won over the audience by then, then it just proves that he never should have been given the job in the first place.

So all the while Smith's first season is airing the cinemas will be showing trailers for Dr Who the movie starring Tennant, whilst Dr Who comics/mags will obviously not be ignoring the movie.

The idea stinks. It's like making Daniel Craig James Bond then pointing out that you'll be making a Pierce Brosnan film at the same time with a much higher budget...

Exactly. Which is why I said that unless it's a Rose/Doc 10.5, Smith would need to be included or it will completely detract from the series.

Now... if the movie was the Time War... well, a movie budget is what that story would need but then it wouldn't be Tennant. And I really think that story should be left to the imagination anyhow.

The BBC Charter forbids them from doing anything which would be required watching to follow the TV series; which is why a self-contained, stand-alone "lost" 10th Doctor story is the only way they can go.

And I do find the assumption that people won't be able to appreciate both an on-going series and a one-off film a bit condescending.

It might just be an error you know.....but assuming it isn't, could it be that they are rushing it into production and will try to have it in the can by the time the 11th Doc comes along? It may be that Tennant regenerates in the film.
