Financially the movie makes sense - Doctor Who is popular, Tennant is popular. Add that together, make a movie and make some pennies. Whether it's a big screen thing or a straight to DVD release you know you'll make money.
But yeah.. agreed that it's not essential. If it turns out it's going ahead and not a mistake or an idea still being thrown around or whatever, I don't know whether to look forward to it or not.

hang on a minute, just a damm cotton picking minute, thats fanwank, you cant have a movie based on fanwank, did we learn nothing from Star Trek?
Oh, I know it's fan-wanky, but that's about the only way I could see RTD making a bigger spectacle-story than "The Stolen Earth/ Journey's End." Unless he like used honest story-telling devices about the Doctor, time travel, and being human stuff.
