Yankee Stadium (new) vs Star Trek (new)

There are a few, if you believe the Red Sox fan, they already dug one up from where he worked.

Is there really a Red Sox jersey buried in the cement?

One of the workers doing concrete buried a Sox (Ortiz I believe) jersey suring a pour.

It was a big back page headline for a few days, and they eventually excavated it out of there.

I saw this tale of the tape thing yesterday, it was pretty funny. You could either make Star Trek or sign CC for a few years.

Granted, it's the New York Yankees, so anything they do is going to get obscene amounts of attention. But .... I can't recall a new facility ever having such an inglorious beginning. The ticket prices, the re-entry policy, etc...... wow.

He should have waited until the stadium was completed and there was no hope of removing it before he went public.

I just got back from two weeks in New York. I freaking LOVE the new Yankee Stadium. I saw five games there, and six at Citi Field (which also is awesome, though not quite to the same degree).

Oh, yeah, saw ST XI too. Next. :p

How many home runs were hit? 30? 40? :guffaw:

If there is anything that could be considered the biggest FLOP of the summer, it's the new Yankee Stadium. Whatever happened to the Flop guy who posted here a few years back.

You wouldn't say that if you'd actually been there.

I'm sure the debate will rage for years over whether the old stadium actually needed to be replaced. Maybe it didn't yet. But nothing lasts forever. Eventually, all historic ballparks will meet their end. Don't even try to tell me that Wrigley Field or Fenway Park will still be around in a hundred years. Even those places will one day need to be replaced.

What is beyond dispute, of course, is that Shea Stadium sucked ass and that Citi Field really needed to be built. Even the most rabid Mets-haters will agree on THAT. ;)

And here's another thought: The old Yankee Stadium, that's being taken down now, is not the original. That stadium went away with the renovations in the early 70's. That was Yankee Stadium I; the one that lasted from 1976 to 2008 was Yankee Stadium II. The only thing at all that those have in common is that they happened to occupy the same geographical location. Other than that, nothing. They didn't even use the same FIELD, for frack's sake. I've seen what they did when they renovated the place. They completely gutted it. Hollowed it out like a Halloween pumpkin. Most people think all they did was take away the facade and raise the outfield wall. It was much, much more extensive than that.

What we have now, with Yankee Stadium III, must seem like a lot, but it is only slightly more - relatively speaking - than what they did when they went from I to II.

Uh, the new Star Trek without a doubt. Considering how the Yankees are playing and how the seats aren't selling there isn't much of a debate.

^That's just because the AL is sucking this year. I think the NL will win an All-Star game for once.

Yankee Stadium is a flop, the fucking thing cost 1.5 BILLION dollars!

Plus I can bunt a home run there. :p
