Is George Kirk More How You Pictured a Young Jim Kirk Than Chris Pine?

...in the way he looks?

...or in the way he carries himself?

George Kirk seemed much more like my mental image of how Jim Kirk would have acted in the early days.

Re: Is George Kirk More How You Pictured a Young Jim Kirk Than Chris P

One of the first comments I made here after the movie on opening Thursday was that I was astounded they had found yet another guy who would have been perfect as James T. Kirk.

The guy playing George Kirk would've been an awesome JTK.

Re: Is George Kirk More How You Pictured a Young Jim Kirk Than Chris P

I don't know. He seemed a bit too broad-shouldered to me; Pine had that perfect almost angular physique that I thought fit Kirk perfectly. Remember Shatner wasn't the typical muscle man in his day. He was fit, but far from that type of physique.

I will say his accent had too much "hokum" to it. In a Woody Boyd-ian kind of way.

Re: Is George Kirk More How You Pictured a Young Jim Kirk Than Chris P

I think we'll probably see shades of George Kirk -- at least, his toughness -- in the sequel. Pine was good, but he spent most of the film getting knocked around instead of kicking ass.

Chris Hemsworth, IMDb photo.

Not to get off-topic, but doesn't anybody else think Michael Weatherly (from NCIS) would be perfect as Sam Kirk (JTK's older brother)?

Re: Is George Kirk More How You Pictured a Young Jim Kirk Than Chris P

Yeah, Hemsworth would have made a great Jim Kirk, I thought. Heh.

Re: Is George Kirk More How You Pictured a Young Jim Kirk Than Chris P

if i'm honest when I first saw George Kirk I thought it was Pine playing the roll of Kirks father as well as the roll of Kirk, and then I looked more closely and realised it wasn't. :D

Re: Is George Kirk More How You Pictured a Young Jim Kirk Than Chris P

Oh, so it WASN'T just me, then?

When my friends and I saw the movie Wednesday, we all said the same thing.

Re: Is George Kirk More How You Pictured a Young Jim Kirk Than Chris P

He was a bit beefier than how I picture Kirk, but he's definitely credible as the guy's father.

Re: Is George Kirk More How You Pictured a Young Jim Kirk Than Chris P

Chris Hemsworth looks to be too old to play Jim Kirk as he is in 2258, but in a flat-out TOS remake, I think he'd have been great.

He can probably do any accent they need: he's Australian, and he sounded midwest to me.

P.S. He's only 26. Pine is 29.

Re: Is George Kirk More How You Pictured a Young Jim Kirk Than Chris P

he did look a lot like Pine, but not so much Shatner.

Re: Is George Kirk More How You Pictured a Young Jim Kirk Than Chris P

Hemsworth has apparently just been cast as Thor.

I too thought that JTK was suffering from a little 'Jon Archer' syndrome throughout much of the movie. Maybe that'll be his incentive to buff up a bit and take those karate lessons....

Re: Is George Kirk More How You Pictured a Young Jim Kirk Than Chris P

I liked Pine in this movie, but I still would have liked to have seen Matt Damon as a straight-up mid-thirties Captain Kirk in a TOS reboot. When I first heard his name bandied about I said 'no way', but after watching him in the Bourne movies and just the general look of him I think he could have carried it off magnificently.

Re: Is George Kirk More How You Pictured a Young Jim Kirk Than Chris P

Hemsworth is 6'3.

No way Kirk is anywhere close to that height!

Re: Is George Kirk More How You Pictured a Young Jim Kirk Than Chris P

I included the photos to show that Hemsworth is not beefier than Shatner; he may be taller, but he looks slender through the shoulders.
