Who else is p*ssed off? (Season 5 Finale Spoilers)

Ok, first of all I thought the finale was excellent and the cliffhanger is definitely my favourite of the series. But saying that I’m completely p*ssed off with what they revealed about John Locke, that he is still dead and we’ve been following a fake half the season. It doesn’t help that they took steps to make ‘Not Locke’ appear to be exactly like Locke, he seemed to know everything Locke knew and acted just like Locke would. I always suspected that Locke might not be ‘alive’ but I didn’t think for a second it wasn’t really him until this episode. Locke is my favourite character by far and now it looks like he’s really dead for good without even having a decent ‘last episode’. I can’t believe they’ve done this.

Anyway I just wanted to have a rant about this. Anyone else feel the same way?

Perhaps, they are still alive, if not in essence, then in spirit.

I thought it was a cool twist. And the way things go on this show, the "real" Locke might be back anyway.

But given the jungle heat, they might wanna put his corpse on ice...

I was actually relieved to find out that it wasn't the real Locke this season because he had been a big jerk for a few weeks now. Sometimes it seemed like he was just confident but many times it quickly turned into heartless and arrogant. I didn't like this "new Locke" at all, so I'm glad to find out that it wasn't really him.

I don't necessarily think that this will be the end of the real Locke. Anything's possible on this show.

I was actually relieved to find out that it wasn't the real Locke this season because he had been a big jerk for a few weeks now. Sometimes it seemed like he was just confident but many times it quickly turned into heartless and arrogant. I didn't like this "new Locke" at all, so I'm glad to find out that it wasn't really him.

That's basically how I've come to feel about the situation. Initially, I guessed that the crated contained his body and I was against it. However, looking back, I realize how much of an ass that Locke had been since the crash, so I'm glad it wasn't actually him.

I don't necessarily think that this will be the end of the real Locke. Anything's possible on this show.

I certainly hope not. Considering Jacob has already revived John once (many people around here never thought he could survive that fall and "The Incident" shows how he did), so I wouldn't be surprised if it happens again.

I think you should allow the scenario to play out before jumping to conclusions. If not Locke still behaves like Locke, what did we really loose?

Yeah I'm in the same boat, I've been ranting about since Weds night. In fact, this show became really close to "jumping the shark" for me.

Well unlike Charlie, I don't think he acted like Locke at all. The original Locke was kind of that pathetic loser that you felt sorry for. NotLocke was what I called uberLocke, kicking ass and taking names. I really enjoyed seeing that transformation as he made Ben so uncomfortable. It was nice seeing him get a little payback against Ben.

And then we find out all the payback was just a sham. I felt like I'd just gotten the big FU from the writers/producers when that was revealed. Poor miserable Locke is still just that, only now he's dead.

As I wrote in another thread, frankly none of these characters save 1 or 2 have much in the way of redeeming qualities. At this point might as well "kill them all and let God sort 'em out."

Besides we were told by the producers at the very start of the series that every character was expendable. They been killing off the main cast all though the series.

Nobody is weeping over Eko, Micheal, Anna Lucia or Roussau to name a few. Some didn't even blink an eye at Ben's daughter dying.

This is what I would disagree with. I thought the transformation was a bad thing, he turned into a cold heartless meanie. He completely ignored everyone else's needs or desires and acted like he was the most important man in the universe. That was not the good and kind Locke that we have come to know. Locke may have been pathetic before 815 ever crashed on the island, but throughout the show he has grown into a very wise and thoughtful person. He still had some self doubt but would never have been so mean and callous as the fake Locke was. I was disappointed that Locke had changed into someone that was almost worse than Ben. He was supposed to be more noble than that.

When Locke was in the hospital after leaving the island and Jack came to see him, he tried to convince him to come back but Jack said no. However, as Jack was leaving Locke said, "your dad said hello." This totally freaked out Jack and I believe it's the main reason he changed his mind about going back. So if the "adversary" wanted the Oceanic 6 to come back then telling Locke "say hello to my son" helped to accomplish that.

Oh yeah, and in that clip show that aired just before the finale the producers were talking about that hospital scene in the same way, that it was Locke saying that line that convinced Jack to go back.

Gah, I completely forgot that scene. This would seem to indicate that the dead really are imposters after all.

Is there any figure in mythology who could take on the forms of the dead? It seems a strange power to have.

Michael's dead. Christian told him "you can go now" just before the freighter exploded.

I actually love the twist of Locke really being dead, and hope that they don't try to resurrect him. It would cheapen the story so far to bring him back now, I think. Locke was a cool character, but we're already 85% of the way through the story, with only 17 hours to go, so I'm OK with them killing off characters that I like if it serves the story. I don't think it's necessary for them to keep every character alive until the end.

I also think it's interesting that we saw Locke's coffin as early as the Season 3 finale, and only now know for sure that yes, he's really dead.

Season 3 finale: Someone Jack knows is dead
Season 4 finale: That someone who's dead is Locke
Season 5 finale: No, really. Locke is dead.

I wonder if the actor who plays Locke (his escapes me) knew he was playing a fake version of his character? Or was that scene submitted to him at the 11th hour and he had no choice but to say his lines? Remember how he was complaining on the shoddy regression of Locke in Season 2 after his grad debut in Season1? Maybe he felt that post 316 crash Locke was TPTB's way of rewarding him. He seemed to be having fun with the character. I hope it doesn't mean that he's leaving the show in a huff. Since it is hypothesized that he could assume anyone's appearance, maybe TPTB will let him go and have one of the other Losties play the impostor.

My wild guess is that Terry O'Quinn is staying with the show in the role of Jacob's rival. They might try to have Jacob's rival possess the memories of the person he's impersonating or something, to make him seem more like Locke, but he'd be a dark, mirror universe-type version of Locke.

I really really hope they don't try to bring the real Locke back to life. They would just be jerking us around. They've given us the twist that Locke never came back to life, and he was always simply dead. Don't cheapen that now by doing yet another 180, and having him resurrected after all.

I don't know. I wouldn't necessarily mind if Locke (the real one, not the imposter) appeared in some visions to Hurley or something (sort of like Obi-Wan Kenobi). Just don't literally bring him back to the land of the living. That would be exceedingly lame.

Even though I had my suspicions I was still happy for Locke because he seemed to finally hit his stride in life and be the person he always hoped he'd be. Now I can only feel sadness for him having lived a miserable life.

Yeah, mostly I just feel bad for the real Locke. I mean, I disagree with Spot's Meow when she said that Locke used to have noble intentions and only became a heartless jerk after he "resurrected." He's never struck me as terribly noble, in spite of what he says. He was always about trying to prove that he was special and a leader, that he could do the walkabout, and blew up, knocked out or killed anything and anyone that got in the way in his narcissistic quest. Still, I always hoped that he'd find his way, stop trying so hard to be the leader, and actually become[/b] a true leader.

But if he stays dead, he's just a sad man whose sometimes selfish fight to rise above his crappy life lead him to be easily manipulated by Ben, by Jacob's enemy, and was ultimately killed without ever getting a chance to see the face of his true enemy.
