Jellyfish Computer Voice

I gotta get new glasses. I thought the subject heading said "Jewish Computer Voice."

Supplied by Bea Arthur shortly before her death.

WARNING: This post may be retarded

Im usually pretty good at picking out who does the voices in cartoons. When i heard the Jellyfish (Spock's ship) computer speak I was instantly sure who was behind the voice. Dr. Leah Brahms.

If you've read the countdown series, then you know that Spock's ship was built by Geordi. Susan Gibney, who played Dr. Brahms, was in an episode of lost last year, so... yeah. If so, nice touch.

Can anyone confirm?

It was her. She just sounded so unlike herself they had to clean it up. (She was really bad off) Unfortunately you don't get her perfect voice in some pieces.

I also positive she spoke when Kirk released Scotty from the pipes by activating that computer screen....something alone the lines of "discharge hatch opening"........or....."releasing discharge hatch."

That's the thing. The voice sounded like it was actually younger and healthy. I did'nt recognized Majel's voice at all...

I didn't see a dedication to her either. It would have been nice...

It's post-credits, along with Gene's....

Which is a dumb place to put it. The one place in the entire movie where very few people are likely to see it.

It should've been at the begining of the credits.

I would actually put it BEFORE the movie altogether.

I'm also pretty good with voices and I say it was Majel on the Enterprise, but not on the Kelvin, in the escape pod or on Spock Prime's ship.

I can believe it was Susan Gibney on Spock Prime's ship. I'll have to listen for that next time around.
I thought the same thing. The Chekov "weektor" thing was the only Majel my ear caught and I was specifically listening for her.

Heard her when Kirk opened the valve to save Scotty from the pointlessly churning water vat of untimely death, too. [siquorneyweaver]"It's just this stupid giant spinning fan thing we have in every epsiode..."[/siquorneyweaver]

I only heard her aboard the Enterprise.

You'd think there'd be a safety system that would've stopped the turbine if it detected lifesigns in the water.

I saw it again today, and I listened closely for her, and only on the Enterpirse and only sometimes did it sound like her. Was weird I thought.

the kelvin, jellyfish and enterprise each had their own distinct computer voices. and just because susan gibney isnt credited in the credits dosent mean she didnt do it. i remember when i saw ethan philips in first contact and then couldnt find his name in the credits. and imdb is a "civilian" built site, not connected to hollywood, so they are not always on the ball. the first officer of the equinox was on lost last night (the guy who called torres BLT), but after the ep was over i went to his page on imdb and it didnt show lost in his credits.

one thing is for sure. the producers went to a lot of trouble to fill this movie with "easter eggs" for us. they knew going in that we would pick apart every scene, and so they created the movie accordingly. cant wait for the dvd.

then again, maybe im hearing what i want to hear. after seeing it 4 times now, im almost positive i here my last name - drader (dray-der) called out in the scene where the new cadets are recieving there ship assignments for the mission to vulcan. anyone know where i can get the script? ;)

I believe that character's first name was "Garth".

That's the only place you CAN put it. You can't insert a dedication into the midst of opening titles, the order of which are determined by agreements with the various guilds and unions. There's a specific order that you can't violate in a Hollywood film, or you get fined.

well, it looks like whoever is in charge of page content for the new movie over at imdb IS on the ball. they've already tracked down over two dozen uncredited actors from the flic. alas, no mention of computer voices, other than MBR.

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0796366/fullcredits#cast

its interesting to see that william morgan sheppard, who played the president of the vulcan science acadamy (dr. ira graves) is listed as uncredited. he had quite a bit of dialogue. then again, so did ethan philips in FC.
