What if they remade...

Butters

Rear Admiral
Rear Admiral
... a classic episode, with new crew, ship, effects, music etc as a special release for the 50th aniversary.

What ep should they choose? And what would the haters make of it?

I'd probably pick either Space Seed or Balance of Terror, but change a few script details, like the Eugenics wars details or Romulan warp drive etc.

I'd put money on there being the same cries of blashemy, but I'd be interested to see why.

Alternatively, as an anniversary special, they could do a Tribbilations style crossover, where the new crew cross in the original time line and visit a classic episode in a similar style to the DS9 special. Would have to think long and about which classic ep would work in this case though.

Just kicking out ideas. I'd probably buy the DVD either way.

I'm with you on Balance of Terror, with the exclusion of contradicting details like not having Warp drive.

"Forrest-Gump" the new old crew into DS9'S Trials and Tribbleations, so Sisko meets Kirk meets Sisko.... You can do this endlessly... DS9 is bound to have some anniversarys down the line eventually :-D

I love Balance of Terror, but so much has changed it probably wouldn't even resemble the original episode. Maybe the Doomsday Machine? A fairly self-contained story, plenty of action for the popcorn set, good scenes for Kirk and Spock.

Balance of Terror, also replace the wedding aboard ship with something else.

That wedding was probably horrible then, seeing as I don't even remember that. :D

Ahh, the bad memories always comeback. Sometimes I forget that some of the cheese in TOS isn't a product of my own imagination. That weeding scene was real wasn't...

I can imagine The Doomsday Machine new style too,

Plot: The Doomsday Machine is on its way to the new Vulcan Colony! After destroying it, it heads for Earth!
