What kind of alien...

If I find out from the book, I'll let you know.

So far, I've spent so much time on the bbs, that I only got a few pages into the book.

You know, this is one of those "unnecessary" things that annoyed me a bit. Why did they invent "new" aliens for this movie, instead of re-using some aliens from previous Trek? Why couldn't she have been an Andorian, for example, with improved makeup effects?

The crewman on the Kelvin bridge, the one on the Enterprise bridge, and Scotty's sidekick all come to mind, too. :shifty:

I liked that fact that they did add new aliens. They had both the wildly different (long face guy and insect chick) and the subtle. Her big eyes were a bit unsettling to me, but it worked.

Yeah, it was quite unsettling to watch, it took my eyes a while to figure it out that her eyes were massive and slanted.

It was a nice way to convey that in TOS, there were few if any 'forehead' aliens. It was a nice touch just changing one feature, but not so much as to look completely alien.

Wierd looking, but a nice move. A big forehead or bright coloured alien would distract from the birth of the legend that is The Kirk.

I know the name of her race...it's ANIME'OID!:D
We have a winner.
RIGHT?! I mean THAT was the FIRST thing that popped in to my head when I saw her! Hey, it's a real live ANIME CHICK!

LOL.

There it is, in black and white.

Ok, I got to that part in the book, and they don't mention her.
I believe in the book they mention a human Doctor... but I read through it in 3 hours.
Oh, yeah, they mention a human doctor -- a male; but I didn't think the alien woman was the doctor. They mention an assistance team, and I thought she was part of it.

You know, they really can't win. If they come up with new shit, people complain about that, and if they were to just use Andorians, Tellarites, and Orions, people would bitch that they aren't being creative enough!

I liked it - I took from it that she was mostly human but with a slight alien ancestry. To me it shows the "multi-culturalism" of the Federation in a subtle way.

I agree though that there should have been more known aliens.

Because most of them look dopey?

So reinvent their appearance, the way they did everything else that they thought looked "dopey."

I'd have been happy with a little of both, myself. Also, I find it amusing that any criticism of decisions they made is automatically credited to "people bitching." I was simply stating my opinion. I actually enjoyed the movie.

^ exactly.
Thanks, both of you.

That has been my argument from almost day 1.

I remember a couple of threads about aliens in the movie, and this my stance on the matter.

Kudos to you both. :techman:
