You know, this is one of those "unnecessary" things that annoyed me a bit. Why did they invent "new" aliens for this movie, instead of re-using some aliens from previous Trek?

Heck, creating new alien species that are never seen again has been a hallmark of filmed Trek since 1979. At least they gave us Vulcanoids and an Orion.

I liked that fact that they did add new aliens. They had both the wildly different (long face guy and insect chick) and the subtle. Her big eyes were a bit unsettling to me, but it worked.

Agreed. While perhaps a bit "Star Wars"ish, the aliens actually looked alien.... (as opposed to people with varying dots and foreheads)
