Unfortunately there was only 1 scene with Amanda with Spock and another one where she watches that drillbeam before her death... were there any others that fell victim to the editing process?

I for sure would have loved to see more of her - for example her and Sarek discussing Spock after that incident with the other boys...

Is was difficult enough to put the necessary background for the main characters, it is very likely several minor characters were left out like that. I would have love to see what Nero did for those 25 years or at least watch the battle at Rura Penthe, but it's a 2 hours movie only.

Luckily, losing one's mother is a pretty universal grief; so they didn't of necessity need backgrounders on that. Quinto did a good job of emhasizing Amanda's importance, too; otherwise the elevator consolation scene would have meant less.

Elder Spock may be able to provide young Spock with information about his relationship with Amanda from his life time; so there is a possibility she could appear in flashbacks.

There was a scene with her, Sarek and Spock as a baby (which made it into several TV spots and a trailer).

I though she did well in her few scenes. They should have featured her more prominently. Another mistake.

So, will there be a Director's Cut on the DVD that restores her scenes?

Winona Ryder did a great job in my opinion. Dignified yet soft. A human heart wrapped in vulcan clothes.

I agree. I was quite surprised by her performance. My parents also had no idea it was her. They saw Winona Ryder's name in the credits at the end were like, "When was she in the movie?"

I know during filming JJ was praising her performance-- and then he cut it all but what - 4 lines? I for one feel that Kirk's final insult about "the woman who gave birth to you" would have had more weight if we had been able to see that scene. And more weight to the tragedy of her death-- as much as I hated that part.

The book also gives a longer version of the school scene with Amanda in it, but no idea if that part was actually filmed.

The use of make-up to make her look older tells me that we might see her again in the future. Or the past. Whatever.

I believe there's also supposed to be a scene were Spock is playing a lute and Amanda was somehow involved.

And it really, really pissed me off that it wasn't in the movie.

DON'T promote something in TV spots/trailers if it's not going to be part of the damned movie. That's false advertising.

Under the Bush Administration that's now permitted (as long as you have fine print).

Please don't take this as I am flaming the Bush Administration, I am just commenting on a fact I read in am advertising text.

Something I was just thinking of:

I would have loved to see the extended Sarek/Amanda fight on screen regarding Spock and the three Vulcan children's fight.

Wasn't her last name before getting married to Sarak "Hugnkiss"?

I would love to see the TAS scene where the boys bully Spock dubbed with movie dialogue.

I would NOT love if the next movie has Spock going back in time to rescue his mother in some foolhardy way. Anakin already did it, lets not do it again.

Amanda was such a great character in the Prime timeline (minor, but great). I was hoping they would explore the character a little more during this timeline. I did think Winona Ryder had the right look for the part though. Not much else to go on.

I was looking forward to seeing the scene they cut of her, Sarek and baby Spock. Hope to see it when they put out the DVDs.
