Pon Farr, and reproducing Vulcan Culture/ P.F. and Surviving Vulcans

Re: Vulcan survivors

2 possibilities when the 10,000 was mentioned

1.) it was 10,000 people saved off of Vulcan, the homeworld, only

2.) the 10,000 includes every vulcan in existence, colony and otherwise included

I don't know

But I'm of two thoughts here:

1.) The vulcans have been in space a long time, and have lots of colonies

2.) The vulcans really like to keep close to their homeworld and don't have that thing about us humans that we have about expansion, they are content on their own planet and only use space for exploration, not for colonization

I lean toward number 2, the latter, that they Vulcans just don't like to colonize like us humans.

Re: Vulcan survivors

Seriously, somebody do the math here of how long a population of 10,000 vulcans could last if they can only get their groove on every few years?

Re: Vulcan survivors

I have to wonder though: With Pon Farr and all that, it's going to be awfully hard to get that population up.
I believe Pon Farr has always been nonsense; It's the Vulcan's way of saying "I have a headache, come back in 7 years or so." The Romulans sure as hell have no Pon Farr.

Who says they can only do it every 7 years? As far as I know that is when they MUST do it, like the minimum, but maybe they can do it MUCH MORE if they CHOOSE to.

When they can get their groove on and when they must might be two very different things.

Re: Vulcan survivors

Vulcan WHATS???

Some of us are still dling this film ya know. SPOILERS!

Price you pay for reading this forum topic without having seen the movie, duh.

Also, um, WHAT, Illegal much?

^Yeah. At least I saw it at the theatre before downloading it. ;)

With all due respect, JJ and Paramount will make loads of cash off me with this film. Don't worry. :)

Re: Vulcan survivors

Anyway, I'm hoping that after another 2 or 3 movies, they will restore the timeline and Vulcan (the planet) is back to its old self again.

Re: Vulcan survivors

Now that I think about it, they can probably get their groove on any damn time they want (look at T'pol!), I'm thinking they can only leave physical living evidence of having got their groove on every 7 years.

Re: Vulcan survivors

Either way, so that their bloodline continues, I would be willing to mate with a few female Vulcans to do my part.

Re: Vulcan survivors

Isn't it fantastic how quickly the banter started over the 10,000 Vulcans line? And even Pon Farr got worked in! I love Star Trek and Trekkers - we Rock. :techman:

Re: Vulcan survivors

Uhura would have spocks pon far well taken care of and nurse christine wont be a problem.... all she'd have to see is once uhura was all over spock... and I doubt that was the first time....

you forget the conversation that put her on the enterprise instead of the hood... I'm the best; I'm going; and that's it... he may be a superior rank and officer above her... but she is in charge in their relationship...

she didn't let him tell her no... his only response was: he basically didn't want to get in trouble for helping her career when obviously somebody could gripe about it and cause his career pain for fraternizing...

they were involved together (hooked up several times) those previous three years... she musta had her eyes on spock when she was shooting kirk down in the bar.

Re: Vulcan survivors

I choose to believe that Spock meant the survivors of the planet and was not referring to any others Vulcan colonies that may have existed, or Vulcans that may have existed on other planets or starships.

...until the sequel proves me wrong. :p

Re: Vulcan survivors

I agree with you... i took it as to those were the survivors of the planet vulcan, not the entire population. and they will make a new colony.... spock remembers a planet from one of his journeys... probable the most logical location for them tooo...

Re: Vulcan survivors

Pon farr cannot possibly mean they can ONLY mate every seven years. That'd really be dumb, and inconsistent with Romulans. At the very least, Romulans have never displayed a pon farr, so it can't be THAT important, can it? :P
