I Don't like Star Trek (spoilers)

[..] may be the best proof yet of a terrible dark age descending upon us.
That's interesting; I thought exactly the opposite when I left the theater; that a bright a hopeful future for Star Trek might yet be upon us.

Well, to each his own, of course.

George Kirk was KIM FROM HOME AND AWAY! one of the worst actors of all time, he probably thought he was really flying a starship, it's the only way he could do a realistic performance

If that was directed at me, I was referring to the character of George Kirk, not the actor. But, I thought the actor was very good, actually. I don't think I've ever seen him in anything else.

Will anyone think less of me if I change my opinion of ST just so I don't have to be associated with folks like Infern0 here?

I have conflicting emotions about this movie, i really enjoyed it, and i love that it's back but they damn near obliterated everything i really love about Trek.

No more Vulcan... /cry
No Sarek Amanda
No Spock Chapel

Still I knew i'd be disappointed going in to as a long time Trek fan and I was right, But I also knew I would love it going into it imagining this wasn't going to really be Trek and I was right.

Ok, maybe next time you guys can have "CSI Star Trek" and the whole film can be set on a Mcdonalds delivery ship, starring the cast of days of our lives, then you will be happy rofl!

Different strokes for different folks brother. I guess i wasn't vested into the original trek canon enough to have a deep founded hatred for this flick but hey

Sure Nokia being the film was junk because what are the chances they're around in 200 years.
I thought the cast was pretty decent though. Sulu and Chekov were in it for all of 20 seconds and at least Chekov was the dumb bridge officer like in the original movies.
Uhura was much different but wow, the actress was good with her material and even better to look at.
SCotty was a bit over the top but I enjoyed it (i do hope they roll him back a bit).
Spock=better than i thought and pretty good actually.
And sure Kirk sounded different but you know what, he was pretty good i thought.

Do i wish they'd cut back on sillyness, yes. But not a bad flick at all.
Do I wish the ship battles and phaser fights were a bit clearer,yup...but they were done well considering trying to amp up the "submarine" battle style.

All in all, I just think the title Star Trek and it rewriting the original product has really blinded a lot of folk.

Keep your opinion. It's yours and you're entitled to it. You are how I wish the majority of those that didn't like the film would act, instead of being so juvenile.

So its ok for us to have 1000 threads of OMFG i love star trekkkkkkkkkkkkk Awesomnezzzzzzzzzz

but one person says they dont like it and its like up yours!

Its all in presentation.

I just think all the over reacting is what almost killed Trek

I know I'm a minority on this...

We might be in the "minority" but you're not alone, Infern0.

Let me clarify, I don't mind the reboot concept - different stories, different background, yadda yadda yadda - but they could have done it with a scalpel instead of a sledgehammer. Abrams has been upfront from the beginning that he was not a Trek fan and was not familiar with the mythos. Obviously.

What's sad is that he made a very visually appealing movie, the effects were great, and the acting was spot on. I didn't even mind the exterior redo of the Enterprise; although the interior was overdone. If someone who appreciated Trek had been in charge this could have been a fantastic beginning of a new series of movies

Weirdly, having vented, I seem to be drifting back towards the middle and now find ST likable enough without loving it.

Stay tuned for another mood swing some time tonight.

I'm not a fan of the film.

I think it's a decent space sci-fi opera. Just not a good Trek film.

I miss the Matt Jefferies designs.

I thought the acting was better than I was anticipating. Urban as McCoy was great.

I didn't like Abrams vision of the 23rd century.

Mind you I like the TNG/DS9/VOY 24th century look and designs and feel a bit let down.

George Kirk was KIM FROM HOME AND AWAY!
So? I don't watch Home and Away so I wouldn't know what he was like on that, but I do know Chris Hemsworth made a damned good George Kirk. :bolian: (Just as Kate Ritchie proved in Underbelly: A Tale of Two Cities - or whatever they called it in your country - that she can act, too. Maybe it's all in the material. Or the eye of the beholder. Or some combination of both.)

More than one person has made it perfectly clear they didn't care for the movie. Most of them have managed to state their opinions in a reasonable manner without flying off the handle the instant anyone disagreed or tried to conduct a discussion, or making ridiculous assertions about what people want / think they want from the next movie.

You're entitled to your opinion about this movie. You didn't like it? Fine. Condescending to and insulting people who did is not the best way to have your opinion taken seriously, though.

Look the point is random soap actors from australia should not be in these sorts of films, it's like if ken barlow from coronation street showed up as pike, i would have lmao. anyway maybe that's just me.

I just think they changed too much, I realise something drastic HAD to be done to ressurect the series. But was it really nessasary to form an alternate universe? the film could have been just as good without needing that.

And the guy who played kirk, he was like a joke, i could not take him seriously at all he looked like some school kid, flying round to save the universe, i know he had to be young, but is it that hard to get someone who actually LOOKS 25-30 years old?

Anyway the movie wasn't THAT bad, as a no brains blockbuster it was a good 8-9/10 but as a star Trek film, i'd file it next to insurrection in the 6/10 section

Only if you take off your pants, and put on a sombrero so you don't go walking around naked.
