Re: Can We Have A Kahn Sequel ? No. Absolutely not! No Khan sequel. There was only one Ricardo Montalban. His memory must be preserved. This is a new universe. Let's go exploring. KHHHHHHAAAAAAAAAANNNNNNNNNNN!!!!!!!!!!
Re: Can We Have A Kahn Sequel ? I doubt Spock Prime would let events replay themselves, and risk nuSpock's death replaying as well, particularly now that the Vulcan re-katra shop no longer exists. I'd imagine that since the nuUniverse has its own independent destiny, that Spock would have no reason to not warn them about certain situations that might occur, as there'd be no fear of paradox. That said, the Federation would be forewarned. Khan and the rest of the crew of the Botany Bay would only be brought out of suspended animation in the strictly controlled conditions of a Federation Prison. Or more likely, the Botany Bay would simply be marked with a warning buoy declaring it "off limits", and its crew never revived at all. The whole "nuSpace-Seed" could be completed in just a few minutes, perhaps as a Bond-movie-like teaser before the opening credits of the real story.
Re: Can We Have A Kahn Sequel ? I'd like the next movie to be a heavy-handed moral dilemma, that ultimately makes little sense and does not connect with the audience, in the style of Insurrection following the wildly popular First Contact
Re: Can We Have A Kahn Sequel ? *WHAT IF* instead of being found by Kirk & Company the Botany Bay was picked up by Klingons. What if instead of being able to contain Khan, like Kirk and Company did in the Prime Timeline, the klingons couldn't and we wind up with superhumans on a Klingon Cruiser. What this would allow for is Khan, to attempt some kind of overthrow of Earth, with the added tensions of potential hostilities with the Klingons because Humans stole a Klingon Ship, which they thought was espionage. In movie they could even be ambigious about the date of the Eugenics wars, so cannon nazi's could be happy, as well as your general public who doesn't need the extra expository about the eugenics wars being a covert war on earth in the late 20th century.
Re: Can We Have A Kahn Sequel ? I'd really rather not revisit the whole Khan deal. They'd be new acquaintances - there's no personal stake between Khan and - anyone in the Federation, really. Plus, 2 appearances really was enough for him. This isn't a fannish reaction IMO - this is essentially a new universe, so the writers should do new things.
Re: Can We Have A Kahn Sequel ? I realize that there will probably be a Khan sequel or remake because that's the way films are going these days, big re-do's of past glories. But I would prefer something new myself. I loved Khan in Space Seed and TWOK and I read and loved all the Eugenics wars books and now I've had my fill. New stuff please!
Re: Can We Have A Kahn Sequel ? This could work. As I've argued in other threads, bringing back Khan with his original backstory left intact would be problematic - not so much from a canon standpoint as from a real-world historical standpoint - but that doesn't mean the Eugenics Wars couldn't be "reimagined" or even just glossed over in a post-reboot movie; only that they, and therefore Khan's backstory, no longer make sense as originally depicted in "Space Seed". The problem is that now we not only have two parallel Trek canons, but also two competing Earth histories from 1966 up to today: the history that really happened, and the faux "history" that TOS and subsequent series "predicted" would happen since 1966 but never actually did. Star Trek historically has presented humanity's future as an optimistic continuation of its real history - indeed, that's the short description of Trek's enduring appeal - but the Eugenics Wars, as depicted in the Trek Prime canon, are no longer part of real history. (And yes, in about 15 years the Bell Riots are probably going to enter this same no-man's-land of faux history. More problematically, we have only about 54 more years until Zefram Cochrane and the flight of the Phoenix also join them.)
Re: Can We Have A Kahn Sequel ? I actually wouldn't mind at all if the brought Khan back. I loved the second movie and thought Khan was a great character. Recycled or not, I'd still love to see it.
Re: Can We Have A Kahn Sequel ? Personally I like the idea that someone else posted about the federations using the genesis device to try and recreate vulcan. Enter: the little blond lab technician. Create a conflict between Kirk and Carol Marcus with him arguing with her that the work she is doing is more dangerous than humane. Kirk will realize just how dangerous the universe would be if this device got into the wrong hands. Enter Gary Mitchell. Kirk bunked with him at the academy (although we will just assume we never saw him in Trek 11), and he ends up being assigned at the last minute to be the special ops officer on the bridge. Enter Khan, and his followers being revived from hypersleep by the crew of the USS Reliant. In the end, Gary Mitchell could end up being the one that dies to save Kirk and co. from Khan's wrath. This is just a really vague way of developing ideas for this, but I figured why not. I do want to see old characters revisited in new ways because we won't know there fate since it's a new timeline. I think Khan could be done BETTER this time out if written properly and played by a quality actor. Khan is considered the holy grail of Trek lore. Even for people like me who were kinda so so on WOK, I still think the Trek writers and producers would be absolutely stupid to ignore the opportunity to bring a big budget Khan film to the big screen. Plus, like it or not, Paramount is going to have their fair say in the sequel, and if they base it on how well the Dark Knight did bringing back the most famous villain in Batman's past, well it will be obvious to Paramount what the sequel should have a hefty dose of. It does come down to $$$$. If they think more money can be made bringing back a redo of Trek's most popular villain, then writing a brand new story about new characters, you can bet what kind of sequel will be made. Leave the new adventures and new aliens for a new tv series. Movies are too big an investment for film companies to be taking chances on "new storys". And if I was a movie exec I would be pushing for a Khan sequel for that reason alone. Star Trek Insurrection was a very original story for Trek, but we all know how that turned out. We got a redo of Gilbert and Sullivan lol. JOY. Point being. Stick to what works, Khan would be welcomed back with open arms to the majority of people who love all things Trek. I'm willing to bet there were plenty who didn't want to see the Joker return in the Dark Knight, and because of solid writing, those same fans were treated to one of the best comic book films of all time. Trek should stick to the same formula. Nuff said.
Re: Can We Have A Kahn Sequel ? Godalmighty. You FINALLY get a chance to see some new TOS-type Trek, and all some imbeciles want to do is see the same damned thing over and over again. "Duhhh.. do the Kahn again, George - I like the Kahn one..." Are you people Nuts??? You like Kahn - go watch 'em, for God's sake, and get out of the road.
Re: Can We Have A Kahn Sequel ? Look, Star Trek is like food for most people. We have had our fair share of good Trek and bad Trek. Khan represented " the tasty meal" most Trek fans would be willing to revisit any night of the week. I'd rather see Khan return, than see a new story about something that just does not work.
Re: My argument for a Kahn sequel... The temperature's rising, It isn't surprising They certainly khan Khan-Khan!
Re: Can We Have A Kahn Sequel ? ...and I know 6-year olds who won't eat anything but hamburgers. It doesn't matter that there's steak and lobster out there, it's McDonalds or a scene. Write some fanfic. Get it out of your system. Try something new.
Re: Can We Have A Kahn Sequel ? I'll take that as a compliment. I wrote up a little bit in one of my previous posts about the fact that Khan doesn't have to be written as the bad guy - or at least not the willing and intentional villain. I think there are ways to explore his character which would be both unpredictable and exciting.
It would be great if Khan, at some point after "Space Seed", floated into a black hole and got spit out into the new timeline and had to face off against Old Spock and OJ Simpson.
